something odd happened to me today...

background:
This weekend is a festival that iowa state puts on every year. there's food, parades, games, etc....
well, each year one of the organizations i'm a part of on campus [Arnold Air Society, a society w/in Air Force ROTC] has a vender stand, where we grill out burgers/brats/hot dogs, etc... and sell to the crowd. and our stand is right next to the path the parade takes - so we always draw a HUGE crowd.
scenario:
so this morning, i'm outside our stand, awaiting for the parade to come through our area, and for us to start up the grills and stuff.
well, this lady comes up to me and says, "would you like to partake in a "socio-linquistic" test on camera?"
thinking really nothing of it, i said, "sure" and she tells me that all i have to do is read this piece of american poetry outloud on camera.
so she hands me the piece of paper, and turns on the camera. and i start to read outloud.
the first two lines were about being an american, and something to the extent of paying like 16 dollars or something ? i can't remember for sure. because what happened next really scrambled my brain.
well, i go to read the third line, and it starts out with, "well f--- you America...." and i was horribly shocked! the lines continued to get worse to include phrases such as "f--- your atom bomb..." "you are communist b--tard" etc... etc....
So i'm standing there, with an obvious look of shock on my face and after reading [to myself, not outloud] the "poem" getting worse and worse [like really, really bad in my opinion], i folded it up and gave it back to her and said, "i'm sorry, i cannot read this...i'm sorry".
she takes it back, says, "ok, thank you" and then leaves into the crowd that has been gathering around for the upcoming parade.
I'm standing there....completely dumbfounded, and honestly, a little worried [because i was sporting a polo shirt that had our detachment logo on the left breast]. all the other cadets come up to me and could tell that something was wrong because of the look on my face; and asked what had just happened.
at first i kind of dismissed it; thinking that this "test" was to see how far people would say something that they didn't believe in....especially on film.
but as the day dwelled on, and now, before i was about to go to sleep, it popped into my head again. and it's worrying the crap out of me. i mean, i'm two weeks away from graduating and getting my commission into the AF , and i'm almost worried that this "test" was nothing more than some person trying to protest and now there's some video of me. granted, i didn't read any of the bad stuff - like i said, i stopped when i saw the word "f---" [thank God].
but part of me feels like i got horribly pwned; and that i should have *read* the "poem" to myself in its etirity [sp?] before even saying *anything* outloud. and now its starting to really make me upset. was this a joke/prank? hippy-propoganda? was it really legit?
i tried googling stuff like this, and couldn't find anything - which makes me think more that this was some person who was trying to just screw with my head or something.
it's horribly awkward, and i really don't know what to do/think.

questions/comments? [sorry, that's about as short as it gets...it makes more sense if you read the whole thing. |

| seems like she wanted some government type person reading some anti-government type stuff and put it on film, trying to make you look bad and prove her point. But if you didnt say anything bad or whatever, then hopefully it will be fine. I dont think it was a 'test' for your AF thing, but I wasnt there. Sorry to hear that it messed up your day and everything. |
