I have to write a 250 word essay on how modern music dulls, deadens and dehuminizes the soul. Of course, I will argue against that, and use trance as my modern music of choice...hmmm
Anyone have any suggestions on how it doesn't do that? I'm kind of at a writers block here.... |

On how it doesn't deaden the soul?
Well I suppose for one thing, it brings people peacefully together. There's nothing like being at a club/rave..whatever and hearing an amazing track and having everyone one around you wanting to do nothing else but dance and enjoy the sounds flowing through their body. There's just so much positive energy associated with that :D |

I think you'd find with most religions, music is used as a form of praise, a form of expression from deep within the soul... modern music is merely music which has evoluted from traditional music into forms which we recognise today. im sure people can recognise elements of older music in most forms of music today, from trance to even death metal...
as im not an overly religion person, i wont ellaborate furthur along that line of thought, but im sure theres a few TA's out there who could expand that idea much more than i can...
Whoever came up with that topic MUST have written it with the thought of essay writers argueing the statement...
surely... |

| You're going to have a tough one there (since music does just the opposite). I mean, afterall, music is THE universal language. If you can sell this one....get yourself a job on the shopping channel or something...you'll do real good. May I ask why you have to do one that says music is dehumanising? What class is this for? |

This is for OAC (grade 13) English.
And yes, there was an essay that argued that music does in fact dehumanize the soul. We had to read that essay first, answer a few questions, and then the next day we get an assignment and we have to argue it...or agree with it. |

seems like an easy task
Where can we read this essay that states Music is dehuminizing? |

I know this isn't a very intellectual argument to put forward, but I think you should just write the word 'bollocks' 250 times. I think your teacher will get the message!

Only 250 words?
Music IS the human soul.
The Universe is one enormous collective of energy to which we are all bound. Music is one manifestation of this collective. There is evidence of this if one examines the effect that music (especially trance) can have on a large group of people. It was previously mentioned how music brings people together. This is very true. Music is not only heard through the ears but by one's innermost being. |
