Tom Jones didn't need to sing that vocal - they have vocoded him until he is unrecognisable -
Not sure over all - |

Yeah but having Tom Jones name on it will make it sell more than just 'Chicane'. |

It's absolutely terrible.
Tom Jones has an interesting voice but absolutely no artistic integrity and Chicane doesn't have any either, based on his last 5 years being .
Only my opinion of course, but it is right. |
I like this track but you have hit the nail right on the head. There was no need to use Tom Jones. His voice is unrecognisable until the chorus. They could have used an unknown person and trated the vocals to get the same sound. Or they could have used Tom Jones but not identified him - like the Jurgen Vries - Opera song
I don't know why he was and I'm unsure as to who is trying to expand their market. When TJ was on tele he said 'its similar to sex bomb, that dance track I did a while back'. Bollocks! That shows his attraction to guesting on the track was nothing but financial.
Also worth noting is that he was told to change his singing for the verses and then 'belt out the chorus'. It really doesn't sound like him on the verses but a bit of filtering/flanging has been applied.
Overall I think the guitar based sounds make this very similar to a Gabriel and Dresden's production.
But I do love this track. Best thing Chicane has done since 'Empires' imo |

Sorry but thats not correct.
As a test, use the 'phrase search' and select 'search titles only'. Then try the following searches.
Stoned Love = 0 results
Stoned In Love = 2 results
The search tool is misleading as it DOES sometimes report 'Note words must be a minimum 4 letters'. However the search algorithm does accept less than this depending on the search type. |

np :p
Incidentally afer listening to this track a few times, it has really grown on me. The vocals could well have been provided by anyone with a strong voice, but i think the key thing for Nick to land someone who would give him a high profile release for his return from a long absence. TJ certainly fits this bill. I hope it does really well.
The vertigo remix is certainly the killer version imho. I've yet to checkout the B side, as i only have the promo of Stoned In Love, but i've heard that Music For Elevators is also a great track!

IMO, it's a rockin' track...So what if it features Tom Jones? Quit harpin' on Chicane for not producing another 'Saltwater' or 'Offshore.' If he kept on producing the same tracks, ppl would blame him for sounding the same. SHEESH!!
LET THE MUSIC PLAY!!! |

Somewhat out of the loop here, accidentally stumbled on the new Chicane material just this evening...for reference, I was a huge fan of his first two albums, and felt that the third had its moments, but lost most of what I liked about his stuff.
Now, the main single, not that hot. The Young Punx remixes in particular are horrible disco pop house pablum. The Vertigo Vocal Mix is decent, but the real treat is the B side, Music for Elevators...
That B side is absolutely top notch, old school style Chicane. I pray that his new album (apparently still in the works?) has more of this style of stuff on it, at least as gap bridging, because it is absolutely textbook old school Chicane... |
