the best-selling trance record getting the highest in UK single charts (meaning having the highest sales) was PPK - ResuRection, reaching a whopping #3 in 2001. Nobody else has ever reached that high, nor any trance artist ever will (well, there is a ghost-like chance, but c'mon). |
Load of e:
Robert Miles - Children (#2)
BBE - Seven Days & One Week (#3)
ATB - 9PM (#1)
Chicane - Don't Give Up (#1)
Zombie Nation - KernKraft 400 (#2)
Delerium - Silence (#3)
Plus several more poppy ones: DJ Jean, Ian Van Dahl etc. |

I think PPK's "Resurrection" actually debuted at NUMBER ONE on the UK Pop charts.
Don't forget about Darude's "Sandstorm". That record first debuted at number one in Denmark, then made its way to the Top 10/Top 5 in countries like Holland and Germany, and then went Top 5 (or Top 3) in the UK. It's also one one of the few Trance records to get airplay on a good number of American Top 40 radio stations (including Z-100 New York). |

No it didn't. I have a big book of all the highest chart placings and weeks on chart by every Top 75 single and Top 100 album in the UK since 1952.

I think that right there is a sad testament of the state of the music industry - when a good artist's only song to gain recognition is one of it's worst - only because of a certain vocalist. |

Well Saltwater did well (#6), as did Offshore (#14). But I know what you mean. |

i'd say the ministry of sound compilations mixed by ferry must of done alright.
i know for fact that Urban Train made its debut at #22 in the uk top 40 which isnt bad really for a track like that.
the thing is, people like tiesto are rich from their DJing gigs, not from selling their own productions. i think if you are going to evaluate it objectively you can only really count those who are artists only really. chicane and faithless being two good examples, since they're into live performances etc. |
