PS3 Final Fantasy VII Remake Scotched
A team of 300 members and five years to match the quality of the E3 tech-demo...

Speaking to EGM Square-Enix have reportedly denied ideas of a Final Fantasy VII remake for the Playstation3, suggesting that to match the quality of the E3 tech-demo would require a team of at least 300 members and likely take in excess of five years to create!
A glimmer of hope stems from Tetsuya Nomura Director Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, who claims that it could be an interesting proposition but there’s simply too much in the pipeline at present.
So for the moment it looks as though Final Fantasy XIII will arrive on the Playstation3 far sooner then a FFVII remake. |

PS3 Final Fantasy VII Tech Demo more than a demo?
We check in with Square to see whether we can expect to see anything more come out of the popular PlayStation 3 tech demo.

CHIBA CITY, Japan--One of the highlights of the trailer compilation shown in one of the main theaters on the show floor of the Square Enix Party 2005 is the PlayStation 3 technology demo of the opening sequence of Final Fantasy VII. Ever since the short clip's debut in May during Sony's E3 press conference, there has been talk that the footage shown is evidence that Square Enix intends to release a remake of the FFVII. The talk started up again with renewed interest, as the clip took centerstage during a compilation of trailers shown of upcoming Square Enix games. We took the opportunity to talk to a Square Enix rep for the internal division within the company, whose focus is on the properties relating to Final Fantasy VII, to get the scoop.

Square's PS3 technical demo at E3

Square Enix's initial response to our inquiry about whether the tech demo is suggestive of a full game in the works fell in the realm of a carefully worded corporate response. The reps noted that, as was mentioned at E3, the demo was created to show just how powerful the PlayStation 3 technology is. As a result, it's a tech demo only and is not intended to indicate that a PS3 remake of FFVII is presently under active development by the company.
However, when pressed, the reps also noted that further plans for content based on FFVII haven't been set, per se. They affirmed that the resulting reaction from fans over the demo footage and the content related to FFVII shown at the party has been overwhelmingly positive. As a result, provided fan reaction continues to be feverishly positive over the demo, and the very notion of a FFVII remake is certainly something Square Enix would bear in mind when planning future projects.
Does this mean it's on? Probably not at this exact moment, but at this point, we're willing to bet it's not a matter of if an FFVII remake will happen, but when. |

| Don't be too surprised to see an FFVII remake a few years down the line. ;) |

I loved Advent Children. I loved VII. I would love the remake of VII. I really really really REALLY hope they would decide to remake the whole FF VII!
I want to play FF VII so badly right now! Don't have time though, need to go to sleep soon :/. I would freaking cry my eyes off just for pure happiness if I could get my hands to a remake version of the best game I've ever played so far  |

i remember the first time i played ff7. i pre-ordered it from EB and got a free Cloud tshirt. since the game came out first week of sept (fall of 97), i waited til my midterms were over (middle of oct) to start playing it. back then there were no gamefaqs, and online gaming sites like ign.com and gamespot were just getting started. message boards hadn't even evolved to what it's like today. so when i started playing i was in heaven b/c the graphcis completely blew away everything that existed to that day. i remember when i finally got to the end of disc1 (aeris vs. sephiroth) i was in complete devastation. how could they have killed her!!!! and became emotional over her loss. killing the mid boss at that stage was very memorable.
ff7 will always have a special place with me. hopefully hironobu sakaguchi's new stuff on xbox 360 captures some of that old magic! |

Amen! IMO, the Final Fantasy series really lost almost all of it's spark after 7. 8 was a crushing disappointment to me, 9 felt like it was forcibly trying to be something (like the best parts of classic FF games all smushed into 1 game) it wasn't, 10 and 10-2 were just utter disappointments to me in the sense that they just felt like "commercial" and soulless RPG's.
I'm really hoping that somehow, FF makes it's way back to it's roots... |

I agree with every single point you made. Most of the people I know think FF8 was trash. Some actually think FF9 was awesome (i never played it actually), but not better than FF7 of course. I played FFX a little...just didnt interest me. The graphics were stunning though. |

ff9 is better than ff7. Great storyline.
I am now playing ff6 and I think it is as good as ff7 doesn't top ff9 tho. |
