It's one thing to spin a competent, engaging DJ set for a packed crowd of demanding night clubbers. But it's another thing entirely to do so for a full five hours. Which is precisely what Dutch DJ crew 4 Strings will be doing on Friday, April 28th for episode two of their Club Heaven residency. Quite a powerhouse feat, really. Musically (and personally), they are super beloved by all the right individuals (think: Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Judge Jules, a million satisfied live crowds, etc), so it's not surprising Heaven consigned them to raise the roof like this. Their last residency night was rapturously received. Don't miss out this time around. The music marathon goes down at the Hollywood Arena from ten PM to four in the morning. So remember: take plenty of vitamins, stay well hydrated, and don't be late. Charles Torrence rocks the early shift.
4 Strings - Club Heaven/Trance Energy/Ultra Records
Behind the story of 4 Strings is two unique individuals, Carlo Resoort and Jan De Vos, who have been acquaintances-turned-close-friends since 1986. 1990, however, was the year they fell prey to the siren song of dance music, and dove headlong into its heady universe, spending all their time in the studio, honing production techniques and collecting unusual audio equipment. At a certain point the pair discovered they differed slightly in their ambitions: Resoort felt compelled by the mixing board, and the world of production, while De Vos found his passions inclined more towards DJing. Things went on like this for several years.
But their paths were destined to converge again, and by '94 Resoort too had begun dropping his early releases, even scoring hit singles. It wasn't until he landed his first record deal though – with the then upstart company, Spinning Records – that 4 Strings was officially born. Here, however, is where things get a little complicated. Resoort kicked off his career as 4 Strings very auspiciously, boasting contributions by Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, and Judge Jules on his first single, “Daytime.” Meanwhile De Vos started spinning under the name DJ 4 Strings, to a similar level of trance music acclaim. Confusion is the key word in this set-up. But it's a happy confusion. So dance now, sort things out later.
