hey... for those of you who didn't read or receive my ING LONG ASS EMAIL....
TWO YEARS have passed since 6 Hubert St closed its doors to the music community and marked the end of an era. I haven't forgotten.. have you?
Do any of the words/phrases below mean something to you?
The Loft
Paradise Garage
NASA
Shelter
Body & Soul
Vinyl
Arc
Tunnel
Twilo
Be Yourself
Factory
If any of the above does indeed strike a chord with you, I think you should read the (lengthy) message that follows. It's written TO you and FOR you and I hope you'll take a moment to reflect, to remember, to reminisce....
----
Where did it begin for you? Who or what opened your eyes and ears to the electronic dance music community? Were you lucky enough to go to "The Loft" or hear Larry Levan at the legendary Paradise Garage? Do you remember Junior Vasquez at the original Sound Factory or Danny Tenaglia at Tunnel? Were you a club kid? A Twiloite? An Arcoholic ? A Factory Head? All of the above? Or something in between?
Whatever your answer might be, you are reading this because there was a time in your life when the music was so good and the people were so nice, when a certain venue was just… so… right ; where you could (and DID) dance all night -- a time when you knew exactly what it was like to have a DJ save your life . It was a time, maybe even the first time, when you truly felt like you belonged. You knew you were part of something so amazing, so magnificent; that it just couldn't get any better... it was, in essence, the time of your life. Times have changed, haven't they?
The closing of Arc, still fondly known as Vinyl to many, marked the end of an era for me. 6 Hubert Street was the place I called home; the place where I found freedom on the dance floor.
Oh yes, you know just what I mean, don't you? No matter what dance floor you found your freedom on, you remember what if felt like to escape your restraints and let the music take you on a journey. A journey to a utopia far greater than anything you could have imagined. This was your sanctuary. You've been there, haven't you? Do you miss it like I do?
I realize that all good things come to an end and I cannot recreate the past. But that doesn't mean I can't change the future! It's time for the rebirth of NYC's club scene and for that to happen we've got to take it back down... down to the underground.
So that is just what I am doing. A new journey begins when two forces pursuing the same goal come together with one hell of a bang. On Saturday, May 13 th, TFST-NYC & One Love present EMERGE. The party takes place in the 'tomb' at Tuts (formerly Bauhaus and Spill). It is our mission to bring together the key elements of our beloved community; the music and the people. We already have the music. The DJs who will be spinning are some of the freshest and finest talent NYC has to offer. They are the next generation, inspired by pioneers like our own Danny Tenaglia and our international founding fathers who once graced the decks at the world-renowned Twilo.
We've got the spot, we've got the sound, we've got the love AND the best DJs around… now all we need is YOU .
Many of you know TFST-NYC and One Love from previous parties we've been involved with or are familiar with our resident DJs Tae Seol (TFST-NYC); Ted Shin (TFST-NYC); Joel VB (One Love); Ryan Tyas (One Love); Doug DeLorenzo (One Love); Bobby Bolker (One Love) and countless others. Or perhaps you simply know us from the 'scene' which has really become our family. Whatever the case may be, we are connected on some level. So we are writing to you because you are among the group of people with whom we have shared the best times of our lives. Whether you are a friend, a DJ, or (more likely) both, you have impacted our lives and we feel that you are one of the true believers in this scene. We think you possess the heart and soul necessary to recapture what our community has lost and we're asking you to act upon it.
If you miss the feeling of togetherness or the awe of ground-breaking talent . . . If you yearn to be a part of something new and exciting or if you've ever wanted to take a stand against the 'McClub' epidemic, then descend into Tuts tomb on Saturday, May 13th and rediscover freedom from within when we reunite as a family and EMERGE as ONE.
-----
If you've gotten this far, I want to thank you for taking the time to read our "mission statement". This party means a lot to us and we are reaching out to all of you in hopes that you care about the scene as much as we do.
With Love,
Bree
