hard to pick an absolute favorite, and I've probably forgotten about many cuz of my old age, but the choices would include the following:
PVD @ Central Park 2003 (the first one he did)
PVD @ Arc, Nov 2002
on back-to-back nights: PVD 2-year anniversary + Twilo 6th Year Anniversary (Digweed + Tenaglia)
Ferry Corsten & Kid Vicious @ Roxy
Tiesto, Scott Bond & Guy Ornadel @ Limelight |

Ok damn it I'm putting this whole Suzann/Animacion thing to rest now. That's right bitches, now!
In case you don't know what this is about. Back in 2001 and 2002 PvD was spinning this song that nobody could ID. It got a lot of attention because of the 2002 Rosenmontagsrave set that everyone was addicted to. Right around when people were IDing the set, someone checked out PvD's discography where that someone found a track called PvD vs City - Suzann. Whaaat? A named, unheard PvD track in the discography and an unnamed PvD track that he was spinning in the clubs? They must be the same! So, people started calling the track Suzann.
A few months later PvD released the Zurdo soundtrack. What was on it? A slightly altered version of the track that PvD was spinning and it was called Animacion! He must have renamed it... and the world was happy... But this isn't what actually happened. PvD was asked to remix a track for a compilation dedicated to Berlin. He chose City's song Zum Beispiel Suzann. It doesn't sound anything like Animacion and wasn't meant for clubs and if you heard it, you'd see why.
Luckily for you I remember one radio show where he did play the song and I present it to you now:
http://www.arnspace.com/suzann.mp3
Translation of the important part:
PvD: There's a band called City that originally came from the East and they made an album at the time that was actually really awesome by international standards... and there was one song on it called Zum Beispiel Suzann.. and it's a song where a father honestly explains to his daughter what's so special about berlin and how exactly it works.... and that was actually the first time in eastern german music, where there was censorship or course, where there was actually discussion of what's on the other side. For me, since I was a little eastern boy, it was an unbelieveable song. There's a project now where artists are choosing eastern german songs to remake and this is the one I chose.....
Thanks. I hope you enjoyed this lesson in PvD history.

He played at Spirit on 4th of July weekend in 2004. It was the first time that I talked to barosoap and she gave me a wrong number. I had fun, but I hadn't really heard that much trance by then, so I can't really give a description of how good it actually was.
He was just in DC recently, I think. |
