These people are freakin psycho and these religious extremists may be the downfall of the world someday :whip:

If those "people" hate the Jewish faith (and I guess everything else), that pretty much means that they hate Christ, as he himself is/was Jewish...

Makes sense to me...

I guess I am associating most polygamist families in our country with weird religios groups....like the one's in Utah LOL....Not a big fan of polygamy in general anyways.....a guy does not need to make 44 kids with 12 women...the population in outta control as is......
.....and also you hear many stories of women who have children with a man, and when that daughter reaches "childbearing age", then she becomes his wife as well....who would want to have sex with her husband who is having sex with their daughter the next night? ewwwwww!!!!

Ya perhaps enlightened was not the right word. I suppose it's all relative though... I mean we've come a long way from the days of witch trials. LOL

Bwahahahah.

I really can't stand all religion. The indoctrination that I see in this women is really nothing more than an extreme case of the same mindset that fuels all religious belief. These tight family circles obviously have a massive influence upon the mental development of their children. This is the worst of the worst. The problem is that these people's minds have been devoid of true logic and reason, and instead filled with fallacies, lies, and extremist points of view reinforced by years of childhood indoctrination. They're so far down in the cave that they think the light is out to get them. It's very interesting to learn what psychological forces allow the indoctrination of human minds.

Ahh well. Everyone is born an atheist, and in general, with a logical upbringing and no religious influence, most of us would stay that way. No disrespect to those religious ones out there. I've got no problem with religion as long as people remain open-minded. There's nothing wrong with having a belief... I mean... nobody can refute what you believe... but I have very little patience for people that consider their beliefs to be absolute truth or knowledge.

I feel so horrible for the people that are victims of this kind of bull. I mean... the woman herself... she's probably not a bad person... but she's a tool of a system that became extreme. It's sad that there are people like that.

my girl friend comes from such a family and she even had a hard time admitting that Catholics were christians because she didn't want to be in the same grouping as other forms of christianity... I was laughing my ass off at her...
note: when laughing your ass off at your girl friend try and tell her it's not because you think she is messed in the head. Also try not to spit your gum/drink out in her face from laughing too hard, these things can make it worse. lol. :D

Other than that issue we both pretty much feel the same about the whole religion issue. (but this was certianly a messy obsticle to over come). We decided that regardless of what religion we belong to we are raising kids to be Buddhist since they are pretty much the only truely tolerant religion out there that is not supremely attached to cult status in our minds. I think buddhism has by far the best morals and teachings of the various religions I know of. But if they don't want any part of it, then I fully respect that choice too as long as they still turn out to be good moral people... if not then back to Buddhism sunday school they go! :D

do Buddhists have sunday school?

A girlfriend I had back in highschool was pretty into the whole christian thing, and personally I could care less about religion - don't hate it, but I don't bother with it at all. I enjoy mockery of it though.

Anyway, here's a small anecdote.

It was around Christmas-time 4 or 5 years ago, we were in her livingroom on some Saturday afternoon and she was using that spray-on snow on the huge bay window in her house that overlooks her backyard. It has 3 panes, and she had the outer 2 filled with dumb . The middle one, she was trying to write "MERRY CHRISTMAS" on, but she was complaining that "CHRISTMAS" didn't fit.

I suggested she put "X-MAS" instead, but her retort was: "But them it doesn't have 'Christ' in it."

It was at this point I pretty much blew up with laughter and ended up on the floor in the fetal position, and not 5 minutes later I was leaving the house.

Good times.

How about just a good old dose of utilitarian tolerance?
How about teaching your kids the prisoner's paradox?
People don't need religion and Sunday school to be *good* people.

The best lesson you can ever teach children is this. It's a game/teaching tactic I learned in high school.

- each gets a few bucks up front (for little kids, use some kind of "candy tokens" or something which are exchanged for candy after the game). The idea is to get the most tokens possible.

- every round, they vote X or Y. If:
- all vote X -> everybody loses a bit of money.
- all vote Y -> everybody gets a bit of money.
- some vote X, some vote Y -> the X's take a little bit of money from the Y's. The X's get more money than they would if everyone voted Y. They less people that vote X, the more money they get (since there are more Ys to give it to them).
- ideally, the scheme should work out that with more Xs

The outcome:
- first, they'll vote randomly.
- second, they'll soon realize that it's ALWAYS better to vote X
- third, eventually all vote X, do this every round, and start losing.
- fourth, they'll realize that the only way they can win is if everyone votes Y.
- fifth, there will be some traitors who will still vote X and screw everyone else over
- goto third

- repeat many times until eventually they learn to all vote Y, start winning, start feeling GREAT and then they've learned how to be proper human beings.

This game is ideal because it uses positive and negative reinforcement, as the real world does, and isn't based on some "if you be bad, you'll go to hell" mentality. I think all children should learn to do this in school. This lesson is more valuable than ANYTHING religion can teach a child.
