Idea Hit Me So Hard I Had To Sit Down (pg. 2)

It's a tough one...

On the one hand sure it would be a good idea, as has been stated it's usually the experienced DJs who can provide answers to questions related to Clubs, crowd reading and so on. A lot of the more experienced guys also post answers to noob questions. I also think that it would be a bad idea to have a forum related to just noobs as there is a possibility that the quality of the answers could deteriate.

On what criteria do you decide who can attend the experienced forum? This could cause issues as you have a lot of bedroom DJs who are really switched on but haven't had the chance to play out.

The other thing is, sure it would be nice to post things to other club DJs but then, what would we talk about? If we play in clubs like some of us do then there is not much that we have to talk about as we already know the deal as we are already there.

It would be nice to have perhaps a VIP room (Call it something different possibly), perhaps a DJ's chillout room where the talk can switch to other things. Perhaps have a posting minimum or something to access just to filter out posts of a lesser quality.

It's not the first time this question has popped up and it is perhaps worth addressing as there is a fairly high turnover of members who come and go due to being stuck in the same forum. Sure there are other forums such as music discussion etc. but I have found that when I have posted in those sections and tried to provide a semi intelligent answer I have been flamed to high heaven.
Most notably someone had a Djing question, to which someone called me a geek and told me that I had probably never even seen a set of decks let alone played in a club.

The DJ Booth isn't really busy enough to warrant splitting it up. Its not as if threads are getting lost/snowed under.

Heh, I think I actually remember reading that... Terrible... I'd actually prefer you just stick to the booth, Nem, so you don't become disillusioned by the rest of TA and stay here, providing the solid answers you have consistently brought to the table!

In any event, I can understand the desire to split the forum, but honestly, it's probably a bad idea in the long run. It will only serve to further stratify the "n00b/l337" dichotomy in this forum, and honestly, even though a lot of the repeated "n00b" questions can be irritating, a lot of them are questions that we've all had before, and deserve no less to be answered by someone who is qualified.

I know it's frustrating to see comparison thread after comparison thread, and so forth and so on, but in the end I think one of the coolest parts about TA is the bringing together of the Bedroom and the Club DJ, sometimes the naivette of the Bedroom DJ can lend itself to neat innovative ideas that the Club DJ may not be able to see, and conversely, the Club DJ can impart limitless knowledge to the Bedroom DJ.

As a DJ who is in limbo between the bedroom and the club (I have a monthly, but it's not as though I'm spreading my wings and playing out at a club week after week), it's the fact that both sides are so well represented in this forum that I find incredibly helpful.

Cheers.

lol i also don't go anywhere else bar the booth, for the same reasons as you stated Nem. (bar the laughing at me :p lol jk)

If only there were another 100 active members in the booth it could be a bit busier.. i dunno, i'm just waffling.

That's a pretty bad idea. What are you going to do with a separate room full of newbs? If nobody knows anything to begin with, nothing will ever get answered. I think this section is perfect the way it is with dj's of all skill levels. In the way the pros can teach the newbs and once in a blue moon a newb can teach an old dog new tricks.

man thats deep
