JP8000 Problems...
View this Thread in Original format

Hey guys recently purchased a used jp8000 off ebay...everything works great, only a few problems i really needed help with:

1) How come sometimes when im playing something, though perfect sound is coming out, out of no where, while im playing, the sound cuts off (not frequency cutoff effect, i mean literally, cuts off) completely and then none of the keys will work on the keyboard (no sound at all or will play whatever i play in very low volume) until i access another patch (although then if i rreturn to the patch i was working on, again ull be able to hear the sound, sorta like u refreshed it)

2) How can i record things i play and then play them back? (unit didnt come with a manual so plz tell me what buttons to press)

3) What does the KEY FOLLOW knob do? i found that each time i move it around even just a bit, no sound will be heard until another patch is accessed

I'm not entirely sure why the sound would cut out randomly. The Key Follow knob - according to my limited knowledge - basically assigns the filter envelope to the velocity of your keyboard - it shouldn't kill the sound completely either.

Perhaps your JP needs a factory reset? To do this follow these instructions:

(1) Turn the power on.
(2) Press [7] (INIT/BULK) while holding down the [SHIFT] key.
Select "Initialize" by using Button [7]. Next select
"Factory Preset" with the [UP]/[DOWN] keys.
(3) Press [WRITE] to load the factory setting data.

i think i had the same problem when changing patches. i dont no what sequencer your using but here is what you do in cubase. when you create a midi track and route to the jp8000. add an audio track click the speaker button and choose your patch while the audio track is highlighted. when you want to record the midi click on the midi track but dont change the patches and record your melody. the arpeggiator wont work when you have the midi track selected, if it does you have it set up wrong. when you want to record it click on the audio track and record it will automatically play your midi pattern and record it to audio. then you can play it back.

hope this helps. i asked these questions on a thread ages ago.

RTFM. (Your sequencer manual that is.)

In my experience, it is used when a parameter (mostly filter cutoff or filter envelope amount), is mapped to the keyboard layout; i.e. low keys have closed filter, highest keys have open filter.

The oscillators can have a key follow knob too, and when set to 0 or 1 the keys either wont do anything, or will all play the same note.

kool thanks the recording thing ill give it a try...and the key follow...that makes sense, because when i try it on preset patches, it sounds like its doing exactly that...now the only thing, the problem about the sound cutting off...actually i was having this problem before putting the manual schleis banks on it too, so u think a factory reset would do the trick anyway?

btw from the manual schleis xplorations vol 1...i found a whole bunch of sounds that if u tweak just a bit, will get u the sound of famous trance tunes...ill be sure to post those up later
