Ok, I'm in the market for a new digital camera as well as a new mp3 player/recorder (or simply a voice recorder)
First up - digital camera (price up to $250). I am getting rid of my Canon A80, which has served me well, but I am looking to get something newer, with a bigger screen (2.5"... or bigger), less weight and size to carry around (that means less batteries as well). And, most importantly... better performance in night shots - for clubs, yes! It does very well in clubs, but it could do better.
So, smaller/thinner in size, less weight to carry around, bigger lcd and better performance in dark areas.
Next up - mp3 player/recorder (price up to $150). I am looking for any piece of hardware that can record at least 12 hours of high quality audio from a single battery charge, has a built-in microphone of some sort (the higher quality mic/recording, the better), records in MP3 format and has a usb2 connection will do just fine. Some of the candidates for this position are the ones made by www.iaudio.com (iAudio 5 is pretty close to what I'm looking for).
So, any suggestions are more than welcome... price, features, performance, personal recommendation, best places in T.O. to buy them/test them out, whatever... HIT ME! |

I'll take this to work (Future Shop) and hand it to the respective departments, see what they have to say and get back to you. :D |

yep, but that model is as big & heavy as the one I'm trying to get rid of...
something slimmer would be really nice. but the problem with the slimmer ones is the lack of manual controls/settings, at least in most cases... |

I completely agree! The Digital Elph is amazing - it goes for about double your budget, but it is definiely worth the investment - I have no complaints about it and haven't heard any yet. Try looking on eBay for the 'older' (like 1-2 yrs old) models that they don't sell in stores anymore. Still great cameras and might be cheaper and aren't like 6-7 Megapixels (which is too much/useless to the average user IMO).

Ummmmm.....no the SD series is much smaller than the A series.
Also, you're not gonna get much of a camera for $250. Unless you get an older or refurbished model.
And don't bother messing around with other brands. Stay with Canon. |

Canon A80:
Weight (inc. batteries) 350 g (12.3 oz)
Dimensions 103 x 65 x 35 mm (4.1 x 2.6 x 1.4 in)
Canon SD400:
Weight (inc. batteries) 150 g (5.3 oz)
Dimensions 86 x 53 x 21 mm (3.4 x 2.1 x 0.8 in)
my bad, I was looking at a different model (S400 or something)
you're right... it's less than half the weight of A80 and quite smaller too.
btw, have any of you found that having an ISO Rating of more than 400 (800, 1600, and such) matters much in dark environment? Especially if you're gonna use flash anyway? |
