forgive my ignorance since i mainly dont have time to read the australian section of the forums, usually just the main section to get the songs the o/s people are listening to at the moment. anyway back closer to home what places do you guys go out to in melbourne(i tried the search function with not much luck)
i have the problem that most of my friends aren't into the same music as me and i aint game enough to go try a place by myself.
thnx in advance :) |

^^ Yep, I've got a similar problem mate. :)
My friends enjoy the commercial clubs (they're usually the ones who drag me out to these places - Casey's, Spy Lounge, Heat etc.) but it can be a bit of a chore getting em to go to the real places.
One place they don't mind visiting is the UP-Top bar on Russel St, which generally plays some pretty decent progressive stuff, has a nice layout and also has no cover charge (which works in its favour). It's not a big place, but it's a pretty good place to groove to some decent music while keeping your friends occupied in the bar bit. :)
We've tried to get into Room 680 twice, but we were knocked back both times (for being too drunk and too underdressed having gone to Casey's beforehand) but it's got a good reputation and I intend to actually get in there before uni bloody starts again.
Ah, then there's the Whiskey Bar, which is another good place to take mates who aren't really into electronic music. They've got a reasonable sort of house flava going on downstairs (and a very cozy setup to boot :) ) and when the house set finishes and they start playing that r'n'b e, you can leg it upstairs where they play some pretty solid hard-trance. I usually don't like that sorta stuff, but they had me dancing for like 3 hours last time I went there....... so it's good in that respect, but the $15 cover-charge blows a bit. :-/
If you've got nothing better to do ona Tuesday night, check out Commercial Lounge (forget the name of the night now). I used to go there quite frequently - before I had to start working at 6am Wednesdays :( - cos my mate could get us all on the guest-list (with cheap drink cards etc) and if you like house music, you'll probably like this place. It's even better since they opened up the top bit, cos, again, when they start playing r'n'b music downstairs, they've got some pretty decent house stuff going on upstairs. And even if you don't like that sort of music, there's plenty of eye-candy to keep you entertained, believe me. ;)
Heh, and yeah, I'm kinda struggling beyond there actually. I could give you a run-down of every club out there though? And all the commercial meat-market ones? i.e. the places I seem to end up at almost every weekend? |

| its Club Evolution now, agreed that the eye candy is nice im not a particular fan of the music played upstairs. 2 weeks ago they had a bikini show downstairs, now that was good :) |

What happened to SALT Club? They used to have good saturdaynights there..
Room 680; music is ok but place is a bit boring. Right in the middle of dance floor they have this large cubicles which suck.
Actually i wanna go to one of those clubs where they play GOA ;)
or psychedellic (hope spelled right) any suggestions? |

Yeah, I'm not too sure to be honest. I know the guys who used to run the Thursday nights there (and who are currently running the Friday nights at Metro) and I think it's just the fact that people stopped turning up - well, on the Thursday nights anyway. Haven't been to Salt for about 6 months so I'm not sure what the go is there now. They've got a decent sound system there (with those speakers on the dance-floor that substitute as benches :D ) so I hope it sticks around.
And as for Goa muzak, I don't think there's too much call for it around here to be honest. :)
Maybe you should try heading up to Earthcore or that Kryal Castle rave which is coming up soon. I'm sure there's gonna be a decent dosage of psychadelic there. :D |
