FL Studio Automation....

Can someone explain how this works to me? In a language I understand other than choppy, broken english?

Every tutorial I've read about this subject leaves me believeing I can only automate some tracks if I have FL Studio 5 'Producer's Edition' and the bottom panel playlist.
Is this the case?

I want to automate the volume on certain mixer tracks, specifically some drum loops but every time I read a tutorial on this I just get frustrated and give up.

Is anyone willing to sit down and explain to me how I can make this happen?

If so, many, many thanks in advance!

Say you want to automate volume by the fader on the mixer.

Right click on it, click CREATE AUTOMATION CLIP. Then, in the Playlist, at the bottom (where samples go, not loops), you can click and make like a "wire" that represents what the knob will do. You can say, start this off and O, and make it progress upward. As the song plays, the volume fader will mimic what you have the Automation clip doing, and up the volume.

Okay, I got that far, but here's my next question...

in the playlist how do I get it to spread across more than one bar?

Right now I can only get the volume to swell per bar, can I spread that out so it starts out quietly and builds intensity over several bars?

Edit: nevermind, I figured it out.

Thanks for your help though man:toocool:

Just by playing with it...dragging and clicking the mouse pointer over it.

At first I tried in paint mode to spread it across the bars I wanted to adjust and it came up as individual segments in each bar.
I think I switched to draw mode, removed the additional segments and stretched the first one out by dragging across the envelope line in spots, than I started adjusting the actual envelope to peak at a certain point in the verse.

BTW: please excuse my lack of technical terms on this lol, I'm forever a newbie due to the demands of my work life.
At least my music is starting to sound somewhat decent, not quite ready to have it critiqued here yet though.;)

Just remember that anything you can click on in fruity can be automated. Left click on the volume, then Edit. For long automations, use a special pattern that does just the voume automation for the particular instrument. I don't like using audio clips, because they only go as long as the patern.
