| James, how do independent study courses work out? I was thinking about registering for one, but really have no idea what the hell they are. |

Well what you do is you organise it with a professor, and they mentor you while you do research. Depending on the professor, it's usually pretty flexable in that you can just meet for an hour or two once a week, and your professor will give you direction and help set out goals etc. You still get a course grade for it, it'll be a 3 hour credit, and you should have some idea of the research you'd like to do. Also, it obviously helps if you already have some form of involvement with the professor.
Personally, I'm taking independent study twice (anymore than that and it doesn't count for credit), followed by two semesters of honors thesis. The reason is that I'm doing research under a professor whom I've worked for since spring '05, and for my undergraduate honors thesis we have chosen a topic that overlaps with the work she wanted to have me doing anyway. This way I get paid for it. It's in her field obviously, and it's probably not something I would have persued on my own, but bioinformatics can be very interesting.
Oh and one other thing, when you take independent study it counts as honors credit aswell as your upper division elective credit, just incase you are in the honors college. |

I did one semester at Tech at 21 hours, and it damn near broke my psyche from sleep deprivation. 18 is the max for me, and apparently even that's too much for a lot of people. More power to you if you have to maintain that level of courseload.

I'm registered for 16 hours in the fall but I think I'm going down to 13. I took 17 once and got As and Bs but I was taking very easy classes, no sciences just Latin, Philosophy, Rhetoric, etc...
I couldn't imagine doing 21, that's sick. |

| My final this semester is PT, Pirate in Training. . .I'd loot and plunder for my final and that by far would pwn the rest of the classes this world created to undermine the super intelligent pirate!!! ARRRRR Matie!!!! Since I do not have a boat, i'll be looting one of those first to sail out of the gulf of mexico through the panama Canal and off ot Easter Island, then to New Zealand. . . ARRRR That is my official final, I also have a pirate card which makes it so once I reach international waters no military force can stop me, unless I fire weapons at their vessels. . |
