best video codecs pack?

I formated my pc and don't know which ones to get
which ones do you guys use?

| i just use either mplayer or vlc media player, they seem to be able to handle most video types. if i had trouble in windows media player with codecs, i just download nimo codec pack. |

VLC works great for me, I've never had any problems with playing any video with it. |

True, just get what you need when you need it.
Essentials should be:
Divx
Quicktime Alternative
Real Alternative
WMP will come with all the other basics, and other players you might install like Winamp will have the rest. |

Get Videolan. Built in, self contained codecs. |

I have VLC but for some reason I don't like to use it very much..
prefer to use media player classic.
from what I gathered so far, ffdshow seems the best option
anyone tried this player? it's supposed to be like VLC
