Go!

P.S. I have a love and hate relationship with the Rane Rotary, you sexy and cruel bitch.
delobbo
good job guys I heard some really good tracks being thrown down. why did they even have a Rane there, I mean a regular mixer would have been sufficient, no? Anyway for the limitations you had (no light, rane, i think trouble w/ one of the decks too) you guys managed it well. Look forward to the next time!

Wish I could have made this, but was in Cali for the weekend. Y'all getting a residency setup there or was this a one time event?

Well, since no one is posting details...

I was going to write a long and elaborate piece that detailed everything but I'm exhausted today so I'll just give everyone the quick and dirty. Basically, it was one of the best and worst nights of my life.

1. I love Narcisse as a club, I think it is a very intimate and wonderful space to play in.

2. We encountered a ton of technical and equipment problems during our set.

First, they couldn't set us up with a DJM 500/600 mixer and we had to use a Rane Rotary which neither of us has ever used. After receiving an 87 second crash course on it, we were pretty much left on our own.

Second, we had trouble with both Pioneer CDJ's, we were getting nasty bass distortion through the headphones while trying to cue tracks up. We got that sorted out eventually, however.

Thirdly, I couldn't see anything on the mixer and neither could Andy - it wasn't too cool having to mix with cell phones pressed up against the mixer.

Fourthly, Rane Rotary doesn't allow both channels in the headphones, so we had to mix with headphones cupped against one ear and listening to the monitor with the other ear. The monitor also kept going in and out, along with having nasty feedback and distortion and it kept throwing off our mixing. Fun.

We did the best that we could with it and apparently it was tight enough to get us to play there again. Tentatively, we were asked to play there twice a month with our next show to be an opening set for Nigel Richards on May 13th.

Localized: Missed Mike's set, stayed at Narcisse until 1 am or so. Avex Axiom's set was good, Johnny Chaos' set felt disjointed and directionless, Erik K naturally cranked out trance and I was so buzzed by the end of the night that I ended up dancing to it anyways. I didn't see any shirtless Eastern Europeans running through crowds while fist-pumping during Erik K's set so that was good.

Although the Chinese guy that broke Garth's glasses at Howells would not stop hugging me and his wife came on to me right in front of him while he was smiling at me. So that was pretty awkward.

A lot of people came out to Narcisse to see us, for which we are very grateful to all. Thank you again for the support. :)

P.S. Anybody who took pictures, email them to us at [email protected] We would like to have a visual record of our first show. Thanks :D

Edit: Opening set for Nigel Richards is confirmed. We will see you all in 2 weeks :)

I had a really fun night. Awesome seeing so many people out supporting both @ Narcisse and Vision. BB - for the amount of unexpected crap you had to deal with I felt things went surprisingly well. Mike / James - enjoyed your sets @ Vision (mike - if / when you get a copy .. :) ) Thought Avex Axiom played a really good set as well. I was getting pretty drunk at this point. Stayed for about 30 min of Johnny Chaos then went and had fun playing minimal techno until 830.

Another successful Chicago weekend :)

Blake sorry I had to miss your set but you have to admit you're partly to blame lol.
