ReBirth's distortion with "shape" parameter -- which VST plugin is similar??

Hi there,
1/ I don't know if I am the only one, but I really like the distortion unit that is build into ReBirth. Thing is that aside from "amount" you have also a great "shape" paramater that gives me the right kind of distortion, however can anybody explain what that "shape" parameter actually does?!
Now, which VST distortion plugins can you recommend that ressembles the ReBirth's one the most, also with some kind of "shape" parameter like in ReBirth.
2/ I also like the build-in compressor alot! You can only set "ratio" and "tresshold", which I always set at maximum (full right) and it gives just the kind of compression I want. Does anybody know what the settings are of the parameters you can't see, like is it soft-knee, what for attack, decay, etc..?!
Which compressor plugin sounds the most like that one in ReBirth and which settings do you recommend.
Thanks for all good recommendations and advice!! :) |

Good question. I have often wondered the same thing...where to get similar distortion. |

I'm just speculating, but "shape" sounds like a waveshaper effect.
Essentially, what this does, is it allows you to control your I/O based on a complex function. More or less, it's a kind of dynamic control (distortion, bitcrush, compression) where you have full control over the response curve. |

Hi,
Nobody else here who (still) has ReBirth installed, can load it up and can explain the mystery of the the "shape" parameter in the distortion unit? It changes the sound, but what exactly does it really do?!
And which VST distortion plugin can you recommend that is similar to the one in ReBirth and also has that "shape" parameter?
Same for the ReBirth compressor. Which plugin compressor ressembles it the most and which settings should you use for attack, decay and knee cause those are "hidden" parameters in ReBirth. |

I have rebirth installed but cannot find the cd.
Funny how its free now but it still uses the cd check.
Although i cant answer your questions i can offer a solution.
Download rebirth and use the compressor and distortion unit through rewire. |

There's a similar sound in Suburban Train, I think. |

seriosuly i dont think this is possible?? nor reason or rebirth have audio in so u can only use the distortion in rebirth on rebirth synths and drums (303+808+909). havent tryed it but im pretty sure of it. |
if you can get hold of Rebirth ModPacker you might add your sample as one of the drum samples :p but I guess that's a bit too much work for nothing too cool...ummm? |
