For people still using their computer speakers a good idea would be to go to Maplin electronics web site and search for active speakers.
I have a pair and when someone makes some decent quality audio it comes through on the monitors, and when they make over compressed music that shows as well.
Maplins have active monitors selling for under £50 and I got mine in the sale for £25.
Just have a look on the web site or go in to your local store and hear these little monitors and you will be amazed at the power and sound coming from these little guys.
I started with these little monitors and bought some proper studio monitors, but I still listen to the little actives as they are a good little reference monitor for all types of music.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/ and I think they have stores all over the world.
