Yeah ok, your right, they did it up big time.
You'd think that because it was one of the first popular first person shooters they would have planned the movie out very carefully and made it perfect.
I would now like to point out the ways in which I think they ed it up.
Lets begin
Firstly, I was told that the first five minutes of the movie were in FPS view. So much for that. It was right at the end. How stupid.
Then theres the fact that you would think they would have rooms that looked like in the game. e.g. the first level of Doom should have been in the movie.
THE STORYLINE
==============
They couldnt just follow a simple game could they? no, they had to make it into some complex story about people being infected, etc, etc...
Why THE couldnt it have just been about demons and all that? Does it really matter if they make it that simple?
THE CHARACTERS
===============
I thought that they would have had one main character like in Doom. a character that has to face all the demons. Nope, you've got a character which you think is the main one until he turns bad in the end.
what a ing disappointment. and its too late now, they cant exactly redo it. :rolleyes:
Dont get me wrong the movie itself was good but why, oh why, couldnt it be based on the game!?
They shouldn't be too scared to cater for the people that have played the game and want to see a movie filled with familiar rooms.
I think that would be awesome ;) |

Thing is, it could've been good.
And I liked the FPS part. :p |

The fact that you could even attempt to watch this movie thinking it wouldn't be absolutely abysmal tells me that you're most likely in the "special" class with the kids who randomly start fires and can only be trusted with safety scissors. |

It makes me wonder why the fans of the game didn't make a more loyal version themselves? I mean, among gamers you will find the people you need to shoot a descent film for less than 1,000 U$ :D |

I thought it was good. That is, for what it was. I knew that it was not going to be an oscar winner before I watched it. I knew it was basically going to be a bunch of people fighting elusive creatures for the first half and dying, then at the end the surviving people shooting at the big scary monsters. Actually, the part where The Rock turns bad surprised me. I thought he was the lead main character and all that. They never kill off the lead main character. But then he starts killing innocents and going crazy like that?
The major complaint fanboys have about it is that...OH IT'S NOT ABOUT HELL! OMG! Well so what. The object of the Doom game is to run around, solve puzzles, and shoot monsters. The story is just there to attempt to give a little depth to all that. When you make a movie, you make it to appeal to the widest audience possible or else you probably lose a lot of money. That's the way it is. They're not going to make a big budget movie like that just to appeal to some fanboy gamers. If i'm not mistaken there are Doom books that remain quite true to the original storyline. I consider it the greater tragedy that many supposed 'fans' like you expect so much from a commercial shootemup blood and guts movie starring The Rock while completely ignoring reportedly excellent books.
I've never played Doom, but I have a special place in my heart for FPS shooters, online FPS shooters to be exact. I thought most of the movie was nothing more than another Aliens clone and that it really couldn't have been anything much more no matter what the storyline. But however cheesy, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride at the end when the FPS mode kicks in. I've watched through people's eyes on internet servers 'playing' like that countless times, excluding my own playing. It brought me back to five years ago. My main thought was, finally a movie for us...it's just too bad your single-mindedness doesn't allow you to see that.
Basically it's a bad movie, but I expected a bad movie. Yet as a fan of FPS's in general, nostalgia alone made it good for me. |

Not exactly complex, but they had to make it into some infection thing. :rolleyes:
How about, they go to this planet and find out that there is life on it, then soon find out that they are hostile. Then some unlucky guy has to take them all on...
oh well. |

The DOOM books were excellent. I can't imagine going wrong with the film following those storylines |

I don't think most of the CORe posters are privy to meneedit's fits of genius in MD. :p |
