That PvD gig in 2002 that you mention was the turning point IMO. That's the first time I had seen $40 for a regular DJ night and it was somewhat justifiable given the fact that that was PvD's return to New York after a 1.5 year hiatus with Twilo closing and 9/11 and all.

After that though I think promoters realized they could start charging much more than they had previously thought and a lot more regular events have been going for $40 since then.
