money-hungry slumlords.

so i went to terminate my lease today; because i have military orders now, and my rental company is being a bitch and a half.

they're taking my name off the lease, which is great, but they're now making my roommate fully responsible for the entire $700 a month rent. simply because our lease states us as "tenants will pay $700" and not "will will pay $350, adam will pay $350".

what makes it more annoying is that my friends who also got their orders; are being able to terminate their lease without any penalties to their roommates [they're using different rental companies].

so as it stands, i'm not going to be living in my apt in june or july. and i've already forfieted my security deposit [$350] to help pay for july's half. but we're now kind of stuck over what to do for June.

i've made the suggetion of splitting it, so i would only pay $175 and he would pay an extra $175. because frankly, i don't want to pay the full $350 for a place i'm not living in....but on the contrary, he shouldn't have to pay it either because it's not his fault i'm leaving.

They're doing everything the legal way [according to the SCRA of 2003]. but they're just being money-hungry slumlords. because all the rest of my friends and their rental companies, are not forcing the entire rent on their roommates.

isn't that kind of normal procedure for rentals involving roommates? i mean i'm assuming it's different in your town since you say your other friends aren't getting the same treatment... but i've always thought that if both of your names are on the lease and one of you moves out early, that means the other one is held responsible for the full rent payment.

renting sucks... i can't wait to own property and not have to deal with landlords anymore.

i'm not surprised. my lease was the same way, i just had to tough it out and finish it up. that's bull though, especially since you're enlisting. heartless bastards. i tell you.

i may have found someone to sublease. one of the other cadets is planning on staying in town over the summer. and if he does.... then it's a win/win/win situation. because he'll have a place to stay; i won't have to fork over money & get my deposit back; and my roommate won't have to fork over any more money either.

the only problem is that my roommate isn't really one to "meet" new people. like, the reason why we're living together [just two of us] is that he didn't really know any of my friends and thought it would be awkward living w/ someone he didn't know. which is pretty stupid considering we're in college; and meeting new people is kind of expected.... i mean, that's what real life is all about anyways.

so , really, he should put personal aside and take this offer. i'm going to talk to him about it tonight; and see what happens.

actually i'm commissioning [slight difference], but whatever.

Thats total bs. My dad had a tenant leave because of the military & he just told him to be safe & take care, returning his security deposit & everything. If the tenant would have just jetted for no reason its a diff story. But when its to serve & protect your country & to treat them like a is BS. ing people nowadays.

um, yeah. coz the landlord should subsidise YOUR life choices which they have no control over. you signed the lease.

as for being money hungry- landlords rely on their rental incomes to pay the mortgage. without that money they prob wouldnt be able to afford the property, and youd have nowhere to live.

cretin.

Long story short: My landlord is a cold, heartless, son of a bitch who has never once smiled in his entire life, has an incredible control obsession, and looks upon all of his tenants as the redheaded step children he never had.

as previously mentioned, there are other rental companies in town that my friends are going through; and they are not penalizing their roommates w/ the full rent [for the two months left]; like mine is. so not every place apparently *needs* that extra rent for 2 months.
