I was listening to some Boris S. mix cds and it seems like all the samples are distorted and compressed the out of? am i right? i want to learn how to do that...never really tried but what the idea behind techno?...lets say the percussion is playing and its really loud but when the kick and bass kicks in , the percussion level mixes with the rest of the mix and kind of gets absorbed into the kick and bass..?:stongue:.........or is it that all samples are assigned to one fx channel?
Pjotr G
the result of hard limiting

Haven't heard it, but it sounds like hard limiting, what Pjotr G said, to me when you describe it.

Set the treshhold really low (-60 dB) and the ratio low, or high depending on how you see it, like a limiter (1:15 is the limit to limiter compressing I think, but set it even lower, like 1:30 or something). You have to really raise the gain again though (60 dB really). A Master Limiter on top of this should be perfect too. Try adding a simple kick and ofbeat hihat-beat to this. try adding reverb to the hihat as well, it's awesome. Sidechain all the element with the kick could also spice things up, but this might be a bit of an overkill to something that already is an overkill.

And there you have it, I guess. Try it out at least.
