a music discussion sticky (pg. 2)

. What the hell is the question? Are we voting on whether or not we should have a thread? Or are we actually having a discussion and not a debate? You lost me.

Why don't you just have the discussion.

Does it really matter? Do you need permission? If it's not popular, it will simply go away.

Usually when I'm listening to music, I'm in my car. I drive 20 minutes to work and 20 minutes home. I usually channel surf my XM dial along the way.

I'll start at channel 7 for the "70's" (sometimes I'm tricky and start at channel 6 for the "60's"). By the time I'm 5 minutes from the office, I'll be at channel 127(CNBC) (Having gone through vintage, country, current, rock, strange, rap, jazz, techno, and maybe reggae along the way).

On my way home I replace CNBC with Air America Radio to get my blood boiling. It's quite therapeutic, I assure you!

When I am at home I usually just have iTunes shuffling a veritable supermegajukebox of the songs of my existence. I do have a lot of favorites though.

Just don't make it a thread were every post is a laundry list of random DJs that do nothing but take up space. Have a discussion about it--something a little more skin deep. How about why do you like said artist/genre/song? Does it connect with you lyrically, aurally, etc?

Or should we have a vote about whether I can say any of that?

Go find that outside of the PDD forum!

we would need a permission in order for it to be sticky..

in regards to 'if it's not popular, it will simply go away' - which was obviously said in referrence to a regular thread - theoretically it could be moved to the music discussion because it's not relavant to our forum.

so i thought unless we get some proper explanations for why we need it as well as some tally of how many of us would use it - we won't get the permission that we theoretically need.

Well since i started the ball rolling i will give my 2cents worth.

Reasons for

THe amount of reading that goes into this forum means i dont usually have time to go into music discussion forum and trawl through all the threads to find a decent one. As St_Andrew point out, its would be a handy way for me to keep in touch with the scene.

I would like to think the music discussion thread can cover pretty much all the music related forums on trance addict. We could recommend good tunes, albums etc. Also we can discuss what djs we like - broaden people horizons. I cant see anyone here slagging off someone elses taste in music, and i certainly would be very willing to listen to an album outside my usual preference.

I know links to songs and albums etc are illegal so i wouldnt expect to see those. But links to live sets should be allowed.

I didn't vote as I don't think I would be posting much in such a thread, but on the other hand don't mind it being there.
In general, my experience is that there's not much point in discussing music tastes. I acknowledge that some might benefit from suggestions for new tunes, and I've noticed some of the other forums have a "what are you listening to right now" thread - is it something like this that you're aiming for?

I have a simpler solution.
How about keep a couple browsers tabs open at the same time!

I just think the PDD should break off even further, have its own chill/out room, cd reviews combined with music discussion combined with dj promotion (since there are far fewer of us "regulars" there will be more constructive discussions and debates, which basically don't exist in the other forums). Nearly everytime I start a thread in another forum, after a couple of replies I think: "I wish I could post this in the PDD." Perfect example is a simple thread question I started in the COR a couple of days ago about 6th generation iPods. 4 pages of just retard after retard.

are you talking secession here?:stongue:

Basically, yeah.

I voted no because I find it hard to believe that a person would be that lazy not to click out this thread and go to CD Reviews/New Releases or Music Discussion sections to catch up on the latest music. Most of what you guys post are really long articles as oppose to the short titles in the music threads which can be read in seconds.

Its not a question of laziness, but more of time. This forum takes the most effort/reading by a long way. Thats the reason alot of the old regulers arent posting here as often, they are too busy. I find it hard enough to read through all the posts in here, i rarely have enough time to trawl through the music discussion or cd reivews forums to find a decent topic.

I don't see what harm it does.

I think it's a great idea. Will prevent me from cluttering up the Chill Out thread with my prog-tech-house speil :p Non political threads are good because they also promote a more community feel by having a threads whereby we're not all flaming each other ;)
