i dont know u think i must change my mixer or my ears?

hey-

while i'm a rather new dj myself, i find that you just have to keep practicing. if you get a bad mix between two tracks, it could be that maybe they just wont mix. there are a lot of songs like that.

otherwise you need to work with your kill switches, like the bass, or the treble. i find that sometimes if you kill parts of tracks while mixing you get a smoother mix. if you use a crossfader, adjust the volume levels and you mix. or if you just use the volume slide bars work with those more.

most importantly practice your beat mixing, thats the hardest part, and i've yet to get it down myself.

anyways, i;m not sure if that answered your question. but good luck :D

dude..
dont blame ur mixer for ur off beats!!.. just keep practicing!!.. ull get it right

It's all about beat matching ... if you want to make it 100x easier on yourself, get a mixer with a bpm counter... even though some people consider it "cheating", it's a hell of a lot easier than trying to match beats and adjust the pitch purely by ear.

NO!

don't get a mixer with BPM counters..

ESPECIALLY for learning..

you will regret it i promise..

bpm counters are trash. they're not very precise, you can't rely on one if you want to hold a mix longer than 5 seconds, and they only work for songs that go a steady boom boom boom boom. breakbeats will it up good. ;D besides, you'll be garbage when faced with someone else's mixer.

if you want to use bpm's as a way to learn how to beatmatch, count them yourself... but most ppl will tell you when you have the feel for the beat, you won't need to know the bpm of a song...

i admit, thats how i learned to mix at first, on vtt, by tapping out the beat, but now, i can throw on any two vinyls from my crates and get them matched in no time.

just keep practicing. i guarantee you will get in soon enough. took me a couple of weeks - and for me it suddenly just 'clicked'

i hope it will for you too.

listen for the different types of bass the songs produce to create a distinction and get to know your music very well. that will help tremendously.

the way i learned is to just throw the songs together and listen to the beats as they meshed together or against each other. after you can match them to the same BPM then worry about cue points.

just my .02

good luck! i know you'll do well

Actually, that brought me to a question which I have been wanting to ask for a fairly long time. Are there songs which you can't mix into no matter how good you are? I'm not talking about the limitations of equipment (because if you get a 15 and a 200 BMP track and try and mix them on a pair of Technics or any turntable for that matter of couse you're not going to succeed) but theoretically speaking, surely, ANY song can be mixed together if they have beats, right?
