We were discussing the potential outcomes of the current tensions regarding Iran's nuclear energy program and the options for resolving the situation. The table seemed to be of the opinion that there was no option short of a strategic military strike employing bunker buster bombs to take out the centrifuges and the deployment of special forces troops to capture or kill the lead scientists working on the projects. I argued that continued diplomatic preasure along with a covert operation to fund and support political disidents within Iran was a viable alternative that should be explored prior to military action. It was my position that there was no pressing need for a military strike as Irans plutonium enrichment capacity was such that it will still take upwards of 10 years for them to enrich enough uranium to the purity needed to make a weapon. We argued back an forward for a while.... I laughed at him and called him stupid, to which he responded "hey, sketchpad... you're the one talking to a table." |
