01) Glad you kept this one short or it would have put me to sleep before the set got started ;)
02) 3:10 -- VERY good transition. Took me by surprise and flows perfect with that heavy bassline. Nice track to get things kickin'. Definately a winner.
03) 7:55 -- Hmmf.. you lost me already. Flow took a downturn with the transition. Would have been perfect if you threw the transition in when the buildup kicked at 9:25 of track 3. 10:43 - Mmmm delicious atmospheric bassline here. XLNT track.
04) 12:00 -- Not much to say here. I'm biased but I'll never be a fan of the plinko/super mario bro type tracks.
05) 15:53 -- Thick bassline here. Definately not a soothing track to listen to. Shoes in the dryer? Too much going on in this track but I suppose thats Ozgur's style.
06) 21:32 -- Ahh there we are back to that nice bassline that doesnt sound overcrowded with high-taps. Shake it indeed. Were you using any Echo effects throughout this track or is that just part of the song?
07) 26:50 -- Bass could have been dropped a little louder but builds nicely throught the song. Nice piano, but this track just wasn't working for me.
08) 31:45 -- Tribal goodness. "Take me higher, Take me higher". Cool laid back track.
09) 35:56 -- Mixing was slippin as you were slowly transitioning from one bass to another. Quick bass transition, good recovery. Mmm nice soulful sounding house. I like I like. XLNT vocals and rythem. Love this track.
10) 39:51 -- Great transition with a nice funky thumping beat to keep the set a flowin'. Winner in my books.
11) 44:30 -- Another good transition. Decent flow to this track but I wasn't diggin the vocals. 48:12 -- Sick buildup. Thick, heavy, dark nassline with trippy riffs. Keep it comin'
12) 48:56 -- Breather song with lots of vocals. Had to turn the volume down a few notches, that screetching sound was starting to annoy me ;P -- Neeeeext!
13) 56:20 -- The vocals transitioning into this song made track 12 seem out of sync (Sean Paul looped?) Maybe its just me. Song had a similar feel to track 10 but was more layed back and relaxed. 58:04 -- ooooOOOoOOooOOoo vocals are quite soothing with that wonderful piano riff.
14) 60: 32 -- NooOOoOo... you were soo very close to finishing this set with near perfect transitions, but this was rough to say the very least :|
Conclusion:
Overall, I am VERY biased towards this set simply because most of these house tracks don't float my boat. However, prior to downloading and listening I had not heard any of these tracks so I kept a very open mind. As a whole, your mixing is very good except for the final transition which I must deduct points from the set overall. As far as flow is concerned I thought this set was not very consistant. Maybe thats the type of house style this is, I'm not entirely sure? I'm playing around with House these days alot more than trance as I am finding it ALOT harder to find XLNT trance to compile. Generally speaking most of the tracks in this were mediocre at best but there were a few winners that stood out. Usually I rate a mix out of 10 but this time around I will be rating it as full out set and 3 separate categories.
Mixing/Beatmatching -- 8.5/10 (1 point off for the last track)
Track Selection -- 6/10 (Don't take this too harsh, I am VERY biased!:)
Flow -- 6/10
The Set -- 6.5/10
Keep it up Vakus, your style is very diverse which keeps things interesting. Mixing is near spot on; I could tell the last transition was either the wrong track selection or you were getting tired (happens to me quite often). I'd like to say work on your flow but I'm not entirely sure how this genre of house is supposed to be structured.
What can I suggest? Download this set if your a TRUE house head.
Finally, please do NOT take my criticism to heart as I must stress this one last time, I am VERY biased.
Cheers! 8^) |

| Thanx for the comments |3 |_ @ Z 3 |). I really appreciate the critique. Just getting into house, proggresive and electro recently. These tracks were recent new things that I heard and liked. I agree with the comment on the last track, the mixing was not the best, but i think i kinda pulled it through. No echo effect on track 6, that's just the way the track is. The Junior Sanchez Rmx of Bloc Party is currently played by Gabriel & Dresden, though they re-edited the track to take some vocals out (i cannot complain about this track since Junior gave this to me in 320 :-) I really like the switch track; agree about the vocals. But more stuff will be coming soon, so I'll keep you posted. |
