I miss Cream. Only shindig I went to that 514 productions did. So happy I went in 2004.

im not too sure but i think it had to do with money
we are not in amsterdam to have raves with 50000 people
they didn't get enough money from there events and slowly they didn't had enough money to pay the djs and everything
I THINK !

and I also heard that they had a fight between them

Hey Markus,I can try help answer some of the questions.
I apologize for any missed spelling mistakes.

514 Productions...
KK I want a little bit of info on our good friends over at 514...

1) Was 514 responsible for SONA? If no, who was running/backing it?

-DJ Tiga and company opened it in 1996. www.amonly.com has an article on Tiga and Sona.
-514 helped with bookings but I don't recall anything else.

2) The events like FREAKY, CONNECTED, OASIS, CREAM, FORZA... where did these disappear to? I know there was a 2004 CREAM... but what about the others? Did these parties work? Did they not get enough people? What happened?

On www.514productions.com , the links at the very bottom will show info on past events. On the Forza site there is a quicktime vid:
FORZA VIDEO

Last Connected was back 2002 at Sona. The Venue change from CEPSUM in '01 to Sona in 02 in my opinion number of events goign and your 2nd point from your first post. I am assuming the same point for the other events that no longer take place today.

3) When did 514 appear in the city? Have they already shined and burnt out (ie: scraped a few crappy parties, kept a few) or are they just getting ready to restart OASIS/FORZA/FREAKY?

I don't know when 514 opened for business. Cream 98 was the first cream I heard of, dunno if there were any prior.

OASIS --> the 514 website has OASIS 2000 as the first event. with Paul Okenfold and special guest which was Tiësto OASIS

4) People who've been to FREAKY/FORZA/OASIS what are they like? Packed? Empty? Good? Bad? What were the themes of these parties?

I won't say packed like sardines. Roughly what you witnessed at Cream 2004

These old card flyers explain the themes. Here they are.

Here is the last Connected flyer.

Freaky was Halloween Themed, below is a flyer.

Also I think it deserves the mention, The short lived YULrecords came out with 6 cd's that captured the sound of the 514/Sona events.
I personally never got tired of this collection. For me they still stand the test of time.

Thank you Nick. I appreciate the time taken. :)

everybody say that sona was the !! ive never been there myself but heard a lot of ups for this place like non of the afterhours have or had the great vibe as sona did.

malek
there was only one forza, i think it was only one time shot thing, not a series like cream or celebration.

i was there, it wasn't jam packed, but it was still awesome. It was the first time i saw Tiesto :D

514 basically crashed and burned and lost all of its partners when Cream (2001?) was busted by the firemen/police for different bull(or not) reasons.

It never came back on its feet since then.
Biggy
Cream was not busted but Swirl was canceled because 514 didn't get the suspension of the alcohol liscence at Olympic Stadium.

They sold over 5000 tickets for this events with no liscence and it took almost 2 years to reinbourse only 70% of the people.

Tiga openned Sona with Joe and François but he didn't stay owner for a long time. After it was only Joe and François. 514 bought Sona only at the end (2003-2004???) because Joe and François were too much involved with Guru. Sona was good but dj wise, it was not crazy as the last two years in town. Saturday was locals almost all the time except for the big nights. Fridays were not pack as saturdays. Saturdays was always Laflèche from 2h00 to 6h00 and Luc Raymond from 6h00 to 10h00.

Sona was really good at one point because it was the only afterhours club in town. The pills was ing popular and every little star from Montreal was going out to Sona because it was the only one. Stereo was even not open and Playground was closed.

Now, the days of pills and other drugs is down big time and people have no more excitements about going out to a club after 3h00. There is about 5-6 afterhours in town, there is guest dj's every week in Montreal and people are bored.

Too much clubs, too much dj's, too much events, too much competition and less excitments about something new.

Sad but true.

But I still think it's fun and good to go out in afterhours club!
