that's an awesome idea slylee:)

My mom's the same way. Last year I gave her two oil pastel drawings I did when I was in high school. She loves like that. I think the most extravagant thing I ever got her for mother's day was a bottle of her favorite perfume. I don't normally like to buy the obvious gifts like that, because they don't take much thought.

When in doubt, frame some pics of you and your mom together. I told my bf to do this one year and his mother thought it was the sweetest thing.

Bought the wife a Photoshop Elements manual. Her addiction is photography, mine is vinyl. The girls are painting some jewelry boxes for the rest of the ladies in the family. Fun stuff, and they don't think of it as work. ;)

What would count as an obvious gift? Would that not be determined entirely by the the type of gifts exchanged in the past? Say if every year one gives their mother a home-made card and a framed picture.... would that not then be an obvious gift? I'm not suggesting this is what you do, I'm just posing a question.

As for me.... Mrs. Hazard took care of the mothersday gifts Sunday morning while I was recovering from the previous night's partying. She won't tell me what she got, which means she spent a lot of money.... which means I won't be happy.

When is Mother's Day 2006?

Mother's Day is celebrated on 26th March 2006 in the UK and on 14th May 2006 in the US.

So for us, yea.

What I meant was, to buy her favorite perfume would be too obvious, because of course she's going to like it. Yes a card and flowers is pretty standard, but I don't always get her that. And dinner is something she doesn't get treated to very often. The last time I took her for dinner was her birthday, and before that she hadn't been taken out in probably 5 years.

I usually try to get things that people have expressed a fondness for or something that holds a special emotional attachment for them. Usually these are the types of things people will only mention once or twice in candid conversations. Try to think of something that would be very special to your mother that she would likely have only told you about. Maybe something she loved as a child or something that would make her remember some special memory only the two of you share.

when i have the money i hook my mom up big time since she doesn't have a man to do that for her.

last year, i treated her to a $300 spa package. 50 minute swedish massage, facial (with this extra anti-aging mask thingy that comes with it for an extra $30) a manicure and a pedicure...tip included. she went nuts.

the year before that, i bought her a white gold and diamond cross pendant. it's really artsy and cool looking. the quality of the diamonds probably wasn't that great since i got it at Macy's for like $250, but i just wanted her to have a nice piece of jewelry that was real. she wears it almost every day.

i feel this weird need to take care of my mom like that. haha

My hubby is taking me out for a seafood dinner. My son is only 5 so he will probably make me a card @ school or something. I dont want any gifts, I am saving my "big" gift demands for my birthday.
