| I have seen on a couple trance vids that some Dj's uses 3 vinyl players when they mix. I always thought that you only used 2. Can any1 explain this to me. And is it any good mixing with 3? |

it's a whole nother thing..
you can use 3 songs instead of 2..
the math is a little different too.
i had a pro DJ explain this to me.. it's like remember when you were a little kid, and you sung "row row row your boat"? then after the first line, someone else starts up, then someone else?
that's how mixing with 3 tables works. in theory anyway..
start track 1. drop track 2 at the breakdown, mix in AS you drop track 3, then mix in track 3 as track 1 goes out, and drop a new record, mix in at the breakdown.
in this way, you are only playing the last half of each record (usually the best half), and there are always 2 tracks playing at once.. like.. juggling 3 balls.
it's complicated, and of course every song is different, there are no hard and fast rules..
also, some people use 2 tables to mix, and one just for effects, samples, scratching, previewing the next track etc. |

| I've also heard that people sometimes throw in achappella vocals on the third table, and just mix on the other two. I have a question though, how would a crossfader work with mixing three sources? i guess it wouldnt.. I dont really know, my mixer only has two channels anyways |

Mixing with 3 turntable is very hard. You need to be very skilled.
Im not sure you guys are familiar with techno dj's,but Christian Varela ALWAYS mixes with 3 tt's.He even sometimes playes with 4!!!Last week i saw him here in holland @ Awakenings (technoparty) and he really ROCKED!.You can use a 3rd tt for loops (short track that will never stop, until you stop it yourself ;) ) for example.
Misstress Barbara (also techno) also uses 3 decks when she plays.
GREETZ!! |

if anyone has seen Bad Boy Bill spin live, then you'll know that he's just plain mad on the decks
he uses 3 TT's and it's just all mad scratching and effects to some nice house *drool* |

Yeah man! Bad Boy Bill is the man!
Carl Cox does this a lot too.
3 table mixing all the way..
3 decks (or even 4), works well with house, because it's simpler than trance, and the melodies aren't so overpowering..
trying to mix 3 trance melodies would be tough...
i've also heard some awesome breakbeat 3 deck mixing. |

| well, my friend who mixes acid jazz and some hardcore uses three tt's. he pretty much uses the third table for adding loops and effects into the track, also like previously said for adding some acapella tracks. i would love to have a third tt, but i have no money :) and i'm not sure that i would even be able to use it, heh. |

I've love to get my hands on a third turntable. There have been lots of times when I've wanted it just for convenience so i couldn't have to flip through records, plus i think it would help me alot setting up one maybe two tracks ahead.
plus there have been times when i think 'this and this loop or beat' would sound really good playing softly behind the two tracks already mixed.
as for the crossfader question, usually you can select with lines in the crossfader reacts with. however i'm not sure how that would react with the other lines. (Line 1 and 3 are selected for the x-fader how would 2 and 4 play? I think normal - but don't quote me)
I still have yet to use the cross fader as it is. just a matter of preference though. |

| Are there any videos of 3 turntables in action somewhere? :) |

| Anyone knows of any existing trance DJ that does the 3 deck thing? |

| dj martink (Hamburg) uses 3 turntables sometimes, but mainly when he's spinning prog. I don't see a use for a third tt when spinning uplifting/epic... I have a great vid of Carl Cox demonstrating 3 deck mixing, but it's only on tape... |
