naw dude.... little too 'ol skool' for me.... 93-96 provided the most creativity in production, and the raw street tales were poetic to say the least.... perfect example is nas' illmatic.... i have yet to get sick of this album in over 11 years of listening. |

Nothing beats the NWA, PE, Compton's Most Wanted, The DOC, Ice Cube, Ice T days my friend. Cube's Amerikkka's Most Wanted, T's Iceberg, PE's Terrordome, PE's Fear of a Black Planet and NWA's Nigga's for Life.... easily the 5 best hip hop albums ever. |

thats really a breakdown of the classic from the 'original gangsta' era... i agree, classics.... but i found their lyrics quite lacking in creativity, and the beats pretty bland.
or course, imo. |

Certainly there are examples of poor creativity both in lyrics and beats from that time, however, no hip hop artist has ever matched up with either Chuck D or Ice Cube when it comes to well constructed prose with a deeper meaning or motivated agenda. I point to PE's Black Steal in the Hour of Chaos or Cube's Gansta Fairy Tale as prime examples. As for beats, may I direct your attention to NWA's Just Don't Bite It, Dopeman, Straight Outta Compton.... This is the stuff that all later hip hop took it's cues from but saddly never lived up to.
I imagine we'll likely have to agree to disagree. |
