The thread on the letter from the Iranian president to George Bush, started me thinking about the "Social" conscience of our TA family...
I wondered how many of you might be members of Amnesty International...
if you are, are you active...if not, take time to write one letter or email...
if you are not a member...think about how you can make a difference...look into membership....
An nescis, mi fili, quantilla sapientia mundus regatur? |

I think there are many important organizations besides amnesty international. You may want your post to reflect all volunteer efforts...
...or am I totally misreading your post and you're in fact pitching Amnesty International to us? |

Yes, you are right...but the thread seemed to take a "human rights" theme...so I thought I would ask.

I'm currently working in New Orleans donating months of my time and energy between Habitat For Humanity building new homes, and ACORN which guts mold infested homes so families can start back again.
I donate regularly to about 20 different charities and foundations ranging from the Breat Cancer Society to preserving wilderness out west for free ranging bison.
EDIT: I also signed up a few weeks ago to work with DanceSafe.org for the summer in Los Angeles. I remember when I started partying it was great what they did in the Toronto scene so I decided I wanted to give back a bit volunteering with them this summer and help promote safer partying. :) |

| AI is nice in concept, but I don't find they look at the big picture of things. In reality, AI won't condemn totalitarianism, communism, military dictatorships, or radical Islamic rule, but they will stand up for the "human rights". |

I hear what you are saying, but I guess if it comes down to looking at the big picture, or trying to resovle smaller injustice on a case by case basis...I prefer the latter.
I have been involved in a number of campaigns that have produced results. |

I've had some friends who sent 100s of letters for AI.
Besides volunteering sorting food at the foodbank, being a St. John Ambulance Brigade member and working at the Salvation Army food distribution center...
I've been involved with KIDS without TUNES (http://www.kidswithouttunes.org/) - helping to provide disadvantaged children around with world with quality tunes. |
