sooo earlier this year while i was hating on my job i decided, " i need to get my ass back into school and escape this place" so i applied to universities. while my applications were being processed i kept thinking i hate wokring at this place i got to so do something NOW! so i went out and planned out my next 5 years, and came up with the plan of all plans. not only did i have a plan but i came up with steps/ map of how to get there. since that time i have set that plan in motion and everything has been working out. and im really excited abt it. then today i get my acceptance letters from all the courses i chose, which for me is in incredible cause i really didnt think i was going to be admitted anywhere (thnk god for acing nightschool courses).

so my dilemna is do i quit my job which im making right now 42 thou a year, dump my plan whcih is working out amazing right now, and go back to school or do i keep on my plan?

such a hard decision. total fork in the road right now. and i have to make a decision soon. I mean im on the right track right now, i was really hoping i was gonna be denied this way my decision would have been easier.

if my plan fails i most likely end up working manual labour forever, but if it succeeds ill be living my dream. if i go to school and get this degree ill have a comfy job working for the city

what to do what to do

excuse me while i do some soul searching

good luck with the choice. That's a hard one to make. I'd personally likely continue with your path right now. I have found that as the ball gets rolling and excitement builds its usually a good thing to continue following what makes you motivated.
University is a great thing to do, but it sounds like the whole time you are there you would likely be thinking about your plan anyway. You even said you wished that you had not gotten in so your choice would be easier. You could always try to deffer your acceptance for a year while you pursue your plan. If the plan isn't working out the way it should in a year then dump it and accept for Sept 07.

well Eric.. if you are happy the way things are now and are sure that you are completely secure and that nothing will happen with your plan then I would say stick to what you are doing if you are happy. The only thing is though that nothing is ever for sure (even with a plan) and you may want something to fall back on in which case school is a good thing.

Once you start making money though and are happy with what you are making and have responsiblities, it is harder to go back to school. You may be better off going back to school now and still keep your plan in place for when you are done.

I hope everything works out for you and congrats on being accepted into the universities you applied to (even if you wish you didn't get accepted, still an accomplishment) :)

Let me ask you .. Why did you apply to University back then? Was it only to "get out" of your job or because you actually want to truly upgrade your education?

I'm in a similar boat :( .... Good luck with whatever decision you make. I know first hand how hard it is.

This is an extremely tough decision and I don't envy you one bit man. I'm in the same boat as you, being a tradesman, and about 4 years ago I was faced with a career changing decision...after weeks of sleepless nights I decided to stick with being a spark, but to this day I know I made the choice soley on the amount of money I was making (which was wrong).

Don't get me wrong, I love my job...but my advice to you would be to go with your gut instincts and do what you really want to do...you'll always have your trade to fall back on if everything else goes for a .

I think you should decide which of the two can be put aside for a later period, and what is it that you really want, making quick money or getting an education to do something you actually enjoy.

Good luck with your decision. I was in a similar situation 2 years ago, where I had to choose between a 60k/yr job or head back to school. It was tough, as I had been accepted into a very competitive program, where I'd never be given a second chance. I chose to go study and don't regret it one bit.

wellsome of u are getting mislead. if i stay out of school, and go with my plan im actually working on a career just a diff career then if i went to school. this is basically it right here, I want to become a builder i dont have to go to school to do this i can do it through part time studies and through experience. If i go to school. id be going to ryerson for urban planning which i find really cool

hard decision i have to make. its a toss up between two careers. one will land me a comfy job with the governemtn and a university degree and the other one will make me happy, and i will have oppurtunity to make alot of money and be able to fulfill alot of dreams.

ones riskier then the other. its basically a decision of going full tilt after the things i want and acquiring my dreams or living a comfy life but still doing something i think is cool.

i dunno what to do. im gonna go see a career counselor on monday tho

FYI urban planning is awesome, I almost did that instead of robotics. Looking back, I should've done it.

Isn't urban planning similar to architecture, involves designing, but on a larger scale?
