This photo of Tongy in the middle of a set at One Big Weekend clearly shows him using some sort of software setup alongside his turntables. Anyone tell me what he's using? Is is final scratch?

That would be Serato Scratch Live

ya if you look behind the laptop you will see the actual scratch live device

ah i see! if he wasn't using his turntable as a shelf, i may believe that he was actually using them!

I can almost guarantee you that he is running SSL with 2 Pioneer CDJ-1000s. If you look closely, SSL is not running in internal mode; thus Serato is hooked up through an external source. Serato can run via turntables or CDs….you take your pick.

I dont really understand the benefits of using SSL wit CDJ's... I mean, arent you just saving yourself the trouble of burning a cd???

i use it with cdj 800mk2's and it jus makes it so much better imo.

CDJs are just replacing your decks. SSL works the same way with both, but there's more advantages on using CDJs as oppposed to decks... For instance, with CDJs you dont have to worry about calibration or a needle going bad on you during a show. Oh yeah, and my personal favorite, you don't have to worry about needles skipping, warped records, and feedback. With the CDJs, if your control CDs go bad, you just make a back up copy. With vinyl, you have to buy new ones.
