It's really hard. It's all about moving things separately... ie, your ribcage from your shoulders and your hips without your ribcage... I still put on my belly chain and boogie from time to time. Here's to the dance of the harlot! (For those of you who don't know, the dancers in the Middle East used the candleabras and swords to dance with because that's what were available... the visiting soldiers had swords and there were candles lighting the tables).

I danced with Badia Star, one of the formost dancers in the world!
She's awesome! Here's a link to a festival she danced at two years ago....

I'm taking lessons here in Taipei.....a lady from lebanon who's certified and has competed and won in various competitions is teaching me. She's teaching me all of the middle eastern belly dancing (lebanese, turkish, egyptian, etc. ) by combining it into one.
I signed up for 10 classes and it's about 900 US, private classes are 100 dollars a lesson but the way I see it....if I'm going to learn, I'm going to learn the right way, and judging by the amount of awards this woman has won, I'm learning the right way :D
I love how sexy and confident you have to be when performing the dance....confident postures, confident arm stances, confident smiles...it's all about that confidence and learning to control your body! |

Be careful! Belly dancing is addictive! I learnt for 3 years ended up going to 3 or 4 classes a week, until I got sick of it.
