trying to get the open hihat sound used in a lot of breakbeat or hip hop songs, like a cymbal crash that is cut short. I'm a reason user and from what I understood it was just loading the same hihat sample twice in redrum and making the length of one sample longer than the other, but it doesn't seem to be working. any ideas?
here's a sample of what I'm going for, from Where Do I Begin by Chemical Bros.

The clip sucked.
And, why not just use an open hihat? |

That sample is shockingly bad......
Thankfully the track is not....it is one of my favourites.
Heavily compressed cymbal- combined with a touch of reversed sample underneath it if you feel the need.
Its a good sample to begin with too-always helps.
That particular track drum wise is compressed to anyway. Compression when used creatively can change a sound so much.
It cuts off because its triggered on a sampler and you can do that on them by setting it to 'loop in release' (on an akai S series anyway) and settting a really short note value for the cut off ones.
Lots of ways to do it- try sampling it and chopping it about a bit and seeing what you can come up with. |
