Gay DJs (pg. 6)

Hard House did get it's chance in mainly gay crowds in mainly gay clubs. But so did house music in the 70's.

I had no idea how little some of the people on this board know about the history of dance music.
Dance music was born in the gay clubs and the majority of the DJs were therefore gay. One of the first high profile DJ/producers to die of AIDS was Patrick Cowley, he wasn't the last.
One of the reasons why electronic dance music has never made it big in the U.S. is precisely because of its strong associations with homosexuality.
Personally I think we owe the gay community a great debt, trance certainly wouldn't exist without their pioneering clubs.

Just look at the history of the U.K.'s premier gay club Heaven and the classic clubs they've had there, Spectrum, Trade etc. Then there's Turnmills as well with The Cross and Headstart.

I thought it was impossible to be into the dance/club scene and still be homophobic, obviously I was wrong.

ISN'T SASHA GAY?

Sasha isn't gay..if you read his sleevenotes from the GU series, espcecially from Ibiza, very well described wat Sasha luv's the most about Ibiza...women, drugs and sex ;):D in GU009 San Francisco there is a comment from Sasha that he hates gay people, coz the set he did for San Francisco, the crowd mainly was gay hehe

Someone said Oakenfold is gay.

This is definitely NOT true.... might be bi, but NOT gay. Everytime i've seen him he's had many women up in the booth with him, all dancing with him and making out with him.... if he was gay wouldn't he have men up there? add to this he was married before...

Anyway, some people should have some respect... we have some homosexual TA's (2 that i know of - 1 of which is supposed to buy me some records!!! - you know who you are ;) ) and they are very cool...

I think people insult homosexuals when they are uncomfortable with their OWN sexuality... if they are not sure or feel threatened in the "manliness" department.... Get off your testosterone rush already!

Calm the down bitch !!! LOL

Gay DJ's I can think off...

Junior Vasquez (NYC House DJ who used to spin at Twilo) - Very GAY !! :)

Danny Tenaglia - The messiah of house (also very gay ;)

Junior is a bitch though, whereas Danny is the in man !!! :)

Well I was told that hard house was created in the gay clubs. Don't know if it's 100% true but that's what I've heard.

I think u are mixing it with the original house music which was started in Detroit in primarily gay clubs but gay DJ's...that's where the men first started experimentating with E and other drugs like K...So I guess all us stright men have taken over from them now and house music has become more universal. (as it should be ;))

Still there are quite a few clubs like vinyl in NYC (where Danny Tenaglia is the DJ) which are 70% gay. I've been there quite a few times and although it does kinda get wierd when some gay guy comes up to you and starts hitting on you, it's still worth the fact that you get to listen to top quality music. Besides i'd rather go and party with a bunch of fruits (at least they are nice) then a bunch of sweaty gino's.

Hm...I was just reading the sleeve notes from San Francisco and I don't see anything about Sasha hating gay people, if he hated them why would have spun at gay pride? I don't think he needs the money that bad. Plus, he dedicates the album to Tony de Vit, who was gay...so my guess is he wouldn't dedicate the album to a gay person if he hated gay people. Just wanted to clear that up...

Laird- I'm really happy to see that someone else around here knows about Patrick Cowley. I used to have a friend (no longer living) that used to jam with him a lot. Before he died, he gave me all of his tapes of their jam sessions. I've got a lot of Patrick Cowley's music that was never released. Also, a lot of it was stuff that was eventually released but with different vocalist. Things like "Right on Target" that was released by Paul Parker...I have with Jeanie Tracy doing the vocals. Also have her doing "Low Down Dirty Rhythm" instead of Sarah Dash. Patrick Cowley was without a doubt one of the founding forefathers of trance.

well i don't give a if they are gay, bi, straight, green, blue or yellow!
If they spin and produce great music let them be...
Keoki seems more straight than me:D

that's really awesome dude!

alot of people are gay, face it! i don't care what people do, (or I guess it should be 'who' they do) during their free time, just as long as they/other people enjoy it. most homophobes are either Christian, or ignorant. (well, if you are christian, then you are ignorant....so... :p :D)

that's a blatantly uneducated statement in itself. why dont you keep your views on religion to yourself?
i AM a christian, and i am NOT a homophobe in the slightest. i dont think the less of ANY male or female attracted to the same respective gender. its simply not a criteria for judging people in my opinion.

so even though you think you're being objective, take your biases (even in jest) elsewhere.
