im looking to buy a apple laptop only for serato scratch live and i was wondering what features i should be looking for

im thinking of getting an older model and i dont need a big hard-drive cuz i got an external one
Vero
SSL doesnt need much, id say a g4 at least 1 ghz and 512mb ram. powerbook preferably, but ibook would work too.
DjWoody
Yeah... Serato don't require much. I use it on my G3 iBook and it works perfect. But pretty soon, I'm going to replace it with the new MacBook Black!

i have a ibook g4, and recently upgraded 1gigs worth of ram (£70), which is cheap as chips, but it will work fine with 512. v v v happy with ssl, its very smooth and stable.

as others have said before. I like more ram so i run 2 gigs.

truer words have never been said, the more ram the better. i run 1 GB, only cuz im too cheap to buy 2 - 1 gigs and right now dont really have a need for all that. i run SSL + ableton simultaneously and havent had any problems yet. but yea, ram makes computers happy.

If you where a windows user before XP too much RAM was actualy bad news.
These days its cheap as chips and its fun to have!
When buying extra RAM for a laptop always check what type, what speed, how many slots and the max your laptop can take.
I dunno how normal it is but my laptop only takes 2gig max.

Is there a specific reason why you are looking to get an Apple over a PC? I have an Apple myself, so I was just wondering what your reasons are...
As far as getting an Apple, the new MacBook Pros are the obvious choice. Although alot of people claim that the iBooks are just as good, their hardware is according to Apple, "severely outdated", so I would think about that if budgeting is your game.
For the new line of MacBooks, the 15" and 17" models are the "Pro" models. The brand new 13" MacBook isn't a "Pro" because it uses a different chipset than the 15 and 17 inch models. Therefore, there is a slight performance margin between the 13" and the 15/17" Pro models.
I have a Powerbook G4 15", and it's freakin awesome. I haven't upgraded the RAM yet(still running at a pathetic stock 256MB...go ahead, laugh!), but if my laptop is doing this well with only that much, I can only assume that performance will be significantly increased with more RAM.

Moral of the story: Don't just go for an Apple cuz it's an Apple. Make sure YOU know what you need and want before dishing out a cool 2 G's for a shiny new laptop that you might have not had to pay that much for...
SSL doesn't require that much in terms of performance hardware, so a PC with more power at a lesser price shouldn't be overlooked either...
DjWoody
hahaha I'm not going for an Apple just cause it's Apple. All my computers are Apple! ;) I just want to upgrade my laptop from an iBook G3 to something more modern. I looked into both, the MacBook and the MacBook Pro but with Serato, I find the smaller the laptop the better because most DJ booths don't have enough room.

My main concearn is SSL's performance on the MacBook. I know that SSL had tons of issues with the MacBook Pro when it first came out.

Have you had any noticeable or concearning issues with SSL on your MacBook?
