Bush haters neither required nor desired for this essay.

And a fine read at that. Thanks for the post, Q. I can already anticipate the replies of the haters.

I am not surprised to see a conservative blogger incapable of finding fault with George Bush. I am not at all surprised to see that she displays a wanton ignorance of facts or of George Bush's undeniable culpability in most of the things he's being criticised for. And I am certainly not surprised to see her try to shift the blame for Bush's inadequecies onto "the left", "made-up news" and - somewhat more mystifyingly - Bush's "far-right [...] base" (if even his base is criticising him, don't you think there may be something to these critcisms beyond mere political manouvering?).

I am surprised, however, that you thought these mushy apologetics might provide a cogent defence for the Bush presidency thus far. Is the musing "what are you guys so surprised about?" really the best justification for this administration's failures that you can offer?

Leaving all other disagreements aside... what about the fact that he only surrounds himself with people who agree with him, and refuses to engage his opponents?

At least Tony Blair engages his opponents. He doesn't run away from them. He is prepared for a public dialog.

Bush is NOT prepared or willing to engage in dialog. There is only one point of view, his.

How can you admire a public figure with such a consciously sheltered personality? How can you not mention it?

Oh, but it would destroy the warm, fuzzy mystique of this article... I see... :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

culpability. ah yes! is this the culpability that can withstand every legal indictment b/c honestly it's based purely on public opinion, more befittingly, your opinion and others like you that have nothing more to gain than to serve themselves for whatever reason. isn't the planet chock-ful of people like that? im not saying you have anything to gain but isn't your opinion shaped by most of those people?
...and to deny the "made-up news" or it's value in respect to Iraq, Katrina, Wiretaps, Judges, Renditions, 9/11 ect. just absurd on it's face. to discard it's existence and it's influence on public opinion (because thats what i think we are really talking about here) speaks more about you and what you give credence to ideologically than mine or Anchoress' respect for Bush.

no. don't lie. your not suprised. you think i'm a gullable goose-stepper, right? a 30% percenter clinging to hope there is something to this whole war on terror bit? i'm kidding. it doesn't matter to me.
this "musing" is in defence of his accomplishments. because you see defending his accomplishments takes a little more courage these days.

could you detail some of his larger accomplishments then? coz, as yet, i fail to discern any meaningful achievement the bush govt has attained.
