anyone ever "frankensteined" an hdd? my maxtor 200gb is ed up and the bios wont detect it, sumpin happened when it was sittin on my counter for a few months [its clicking on boot]. i'd love to get the data back, and was wondering if anyone has ever taken out the hdd platters and put in a diff hard drive body OF THE SAME EXACT MODEL, then recovered to a 3rd hdd.

lemme know cuz im bout to look for the same drive on ebay so i can swap out the platters, any tips might be helpful too.

Most the time when a hard drive makes a clicking sound the disks are warped.. If thats the case there isnt much you can do other than trash it...

reset the bios on your motherboard and then do a repair install with your OS (if you're running XP), my HD had the same problem and it detected mine afterwards and i didnt lose any of my media.

My main recommendation when someone asks about HDDs is do not buy a Maxtor, this is through experience.
