Who here volunteers?
I started volunteering at my mom's friends orphanage here in December and I finally got to go back after 5 long months! It's only babies and they are too cute for words. Even if I feel like crap going there, once I get inside with those babies the world and it's harshness seems to just fade away :) |

I have been trying to get into some volunteering recently to build my resume. In fact I am going to be volunteering for the gay pride parade, either doing security or bar tending. I wonder if I get to keep tips???
Its a great way to get recognition and make connections, and besides you feel good about yourself at the end of the day:happy2: |

There's a program at the University of Windsor called the Volunteer Internship Program. I did itlast fall and volunteered for theHouse of Sophrosyne. You can do it up to two times, so I am doing it again this fall. It's a really fulfilling program. You get experience working in the field you choose, make connections, and help others in your community.
I'm hoping to get into graduate school - law school to be exact - and most universities want you to have a lot of volunteer experience so I'm thinking of taking a year off after I graduate to work, volunteer, travel and prepare for the LSATs. But it'll give me a lot of free time to volunteer and not have the excuse of being "too busy with school". |

I volunteered for the walk to end breast cancer for the past two years. Pitching tents, doing all sorts of odds and ends for the place to be ready for the walkers.
Did some other volunteering for tae kwon do tournaments and such years ago, as well as a program that connects younger people to the elderly. I did the shopping for this one lady for two winters. Its a great way to have some things on your resume, but its worth in that field is fairly limited, especially once you start looking for anything but entry-level jobs. Still, if you're doing it just to get something out of it, you probably won't really enjoy it. |

This orphanage is in Taipei....it's all babies under 1 year old and I go once a week. Usually we end up playing with the babies that are 8 months old or so....I love their little personalities! |

| I volunteered at a crisis center for a couple of years. Was a good experience, there are a lot of people out there who need someone to listen. Found it a little depressing at times though because there are many people with long-term problems that call in and they can't be helped. |
