From a market analysis standpoint, it looks like American Idol went the Affirmative Action route and spoon fed some old grey haired dude to win the competition to lock in the 40+ viewers into the mix, since they have a lot of spending dollars advertisers love. Now American Idol appeals to people over the hill thinking hey I sing in the shower and at karoake that could have been me! rofl. I didnt catch a single episode of American Idol this year...im guessing. :D

I basically didn't watch any epsidoes between the first time they were in LA (I watch all the shows before that because they are funny) and last night's...if I ever caught any before it was like the last 10-15 minutes while I was waiting for House to come on. :p
Anyhow, from the beginning I said (around here) that I thought he win because his style (hair, clothing) completely fits his voice. And it's a voice people in the south and midwest would totally be into and his voice is a voice that could last him a long time. Like a Bruce Springsting voice. Neither have great voices but both voices perfectly fit their styles are make them stand out a bit. With that, had a feeling his voice and look would make him stand out in the end because the rest of peeps had the same voices we've heard a million times before.
If he comes out with albums that fits his style and continues to make his style stand out a bit, I think he could be around for a long time. I see both younger audiences and older audiences liking his stuff...just from a mass market perspective. Again, mainly in the south and midwest.
I personally thought that girl who made it in the final two sucked. She cannot do lows and her highs are all over the place...she cannot maintain a high pitch.

2) pretty
3) brunette
4) can sing
then again, i think she'll get record deals... and sell records. a lot more records than the 40 year old gray haired gomer.

They're going to have a difficult time pushing Taylor as an artist. His 'Soul Patrol'/Michael McDonald/Bob Seger schtick worked well in Idol, but thats as far as it goes. The guy is going to look like Phil Donahue in a couple of years and thats not going to help him. Katharine has a bright future. Not only is she beautiful, can sing, has stage presence, and is still very young - everything thats required. She reminds me alot of a young Whitney Houston (not the more recent crackish one lol).
