No samples on this one, as I'm not entirely sure if it's released yet. A new 5 song EP released from the man who brought the recently played out A Small Step On The Other Side which has garnered support from the regular big names. There aren't any Elevation remixes on this one though :p
Release Date: June 5th
Gravioli
This track starts off with some slight breaks, and whisps into a pulsing 4/4 beat with the typical "mcprog" (as it's been dubbed) elements. The melody is fairly catchy, but nothing too overtly memorable. Rather soft pads, fairly slow pace. Overall a nice song, 7.5/10.
Separation
Faster paced than Gravioli, and begins directly with a 4/4 beat. Yet another spaced out track to boot. Nice little chimes kick in at around the 2:25m mark offering a unique natural feeling. Not bad, not bad at all. A good morning song if I do say so myself. 8/10
Cause & Effect
Starts off with some fierce-sounding breakbeats. This one seems like it's about to kick you in the pants right from the start. It lets up a wee bit once it get about 2 minutes in, and starts to develop into another typical breakbeat mcprog trancer. It's alright, just a bit anticlimactic after such a driven opening. The melody that starts at around the 2:30m mark is suffiecient enough to play this song out. 7/10
Order Up
Yet another breaks intro, this time a definitively more subdued introduction than the last. Marginal vocal inhales give more spaced out ambience to it. It once again develops into a 4/4 beat by about 1:50m into it, and the main part of the track begins. I'm rather liking this. Could this be an ever-so-slight electroclash tech house buzzing synth being used towards the 3 minute mark? Ah well, it's used quite well. The break deceives you at first with its laidback approach, but a few seconds later a larger break comes into play, and I find myself slightly faked out, but I'm definitely liking this track more than the others. And it's the longest on the release, a really fine track. 9/10
The Last Leaf
Straight 4/4, with more typical mcprog sounds. The soft side-chaining synth with a Markus Schulz-esque bassline. Nothing to get over-excited about, it's not going to stand out as it's been done many times prior to, but it's ok. 6.5/10
Fairly good release all in all :) |
