tentative date is january as of now but symantect has filed a case against microsoft because they allegedly used their technology in vista without permission or something along those lines. As a result symantec wants vista to be delayed even further.

You guys are all caught up in your new age techno stuff...

I like it plain and simple, windows 98 is soooo much cooler.

And I'm not even talking about the special edition.

Far superior to anything produced after.

wow all they did is took windows XP, rearanged buttons, added more idiotic useless menus, and changed the colors

VOILA a new system taht everybody can pay money for.

well ok im sure they might have changed the core engine dynamics but these screens dont show anything exciting..

Well come on man, how in the hell do you make an operating system exciting?

I kown the system reqs for Vista are not out of this world, but it looks to me that to get all these visual and search features to work at peak performance, you will need one bad ass rig.

From reading reviews and press coverage, meta data seems to be big on MS's list of improved (important) features. Only one problem; meta data will have to be read from each file, and with today's media happy public that will be a very slow process. Here it comes down to the slowest part of the computer, the hard drive. If they want people to move towards a more search oriented OS experience(rather than file tree), hard drives are going to have to speed up, or you will need a tonne more RAM.

I just don't want Vista, I want a more secure XP. Kudos for MS trying to bring something new to us, but there is a reason Vista has been delayed so much, and will get a luke warm reception. It will be at least a couple of years before I switch to Vista, unless when it comes out, it is THAT much better.

I am very skeptical at this point.

I may be biased, but looks very OSX-esque to me.
