DJ Tiesto has scheduled four 6 hour sets at Godskitchen during the year of 2002. This is the first one of the four and before I say anything else, after last night... I will definitely be going to the next one!

The venue for Godskitchen is CODE in Birmingham. We set off roughly at 8pm and after a little detour around Birmingham we arrived at the venue, roughly at 9.30. It's not that far from home really so maybe we should go more often! :)

After collecting our tickets, there was a quick security check on entry. Once in, we were presented with the sound of a heavy thumping beat. It's always good to hear that sound because at that moment in time, you know you got there ok and had no problems gaining entry, ready for the night to come and sweep you away. It's always a major downer when for one reason or another you or a mate doesn't get into a club even though it rarely happens.

Code is actually quite a small venue but the old phrase "size isn't everything" springs to mind. The building is an old mill and in a rectangular shape. There's the main the dance floor and then a second floor with a balcony going all around. Very straight forward and impossible to get lost in :)

Daniel Soto was warming the crowd up ready for Tiesto's appearance which happened at 11pm. The club slowly began to get pretty full and by the time Tiesto showed his face the dance floor, it was packed and everyone gave Tiesto a very nice warm welcoming cheer to him.

DJ Tiesto's mixing was spot on! I can only recall one tiny mistake when two records were slightly out of sync but this was promptly fixed. His set comprised of some newer quite smooth trance to start off with, but soon heated up nicely! I can distinctly remember him playing a new remix of the smash hit 'Into the Night' by '4 Strings'. He played the 'symphony of strings mix' which I happened to purchase last week :) And let me say this - the crowd were going wild to it. The remix is absolutely superb. After a couple of hours he started to play some of the old classics like 'Yahel - Voyage' which was amazing. It's not very often you hear some of the better quality records from previous years as most DJ's sets tend to include all the latest productions. However, with Tiesto having control of just about all of the night he had the oppurtunity to take us on a journey which we would never forget! Classics, new tunes, harder stuff, smoother stuff, euphoric and uplifting stuff - it was an excellent set, well thought out and with superb mixing. After some of the classic hit records he went back to some of the newer trance with some of the harder tracks at the end like the awesome Cosmic Gate remix of urban train, AMAZING!

At the start of the night we were situated on the 'outskirts' of the main dancefloor, but when Tiesto came on, we soon ventured right into the middle of the dancefloor - inches away from the man himself! This made the atmosphere so much different. Music was coming loud and clear from every angle and you could easily see Tiesto who looked really happy and he interacted nicely with the crowd. Everyone was loving it, the dancefloor was rammed. There's no denying Tiesto has some hardcore fans, they were all there supporting him aswell as joining us all in experiencing an excellent set of tunes which went on non stop for 6 hours.

But, all good things come to an end. Nearing on 5 am the night was over, after a little tease by Tiesto and the crowd shouting 'play one more!' - and he did, and what a blinder. CJ Bolland - The Prophet. Despite a tired, raved out crowd, there was no stopping us from dancing to this amazing track. Tiesto certainly impressed us that night. A very accessable set, plenty up-beat and pretty banging throughout, which made our night at Godskitchen one to remember! Look out for Tiesto's next event at Godskitchen, we'll probably see you there!
