So, since Whirlpool bought Maytag there is going to be a restructuring of the sales force (lay-offs). The corporation has announced that everyone will know what their future is by the end of the month. Luckily, my boss has told me that I will not be getting let go, although I may be asked to move and take a new position.
Possible roles are:
1. Stay where I am and get promoted. (doubtful since there is an abundance of Account Managers already that they are trying to find positions for)
2. Be assigned a job at corporate in Benton Harbor, MI. This would be sweet because it's near friends and family.
3. Be assigned a another sales job somewhere else in the country. Which is cool because it's nice to experience a big, new city but, at the same time, you're starting all over again somewhere new.
The apprehension is killing me because I just want to know right now!!

How'd your wife take the news that you might have to move?

She was ecstatic when I told her my boss asked me: "How would you feel if I asked you to go to corporate in a month?"
I'm really hoping that pans out; it would be so nice to be back near family & friends. Moving somewhere else, that would be a different story - I suppose it depends on where they ask us to go.
Either way, I feel like I just want to go to sleep right now and not wake up until they make the announcements! |

While I'm furious that you didn't get fired (as you'd then be able to hit up Seattle and you could come over and we could play Battleship or maybe Crossfire) I'm happy that you won't be destitute anytime soon.
You're in a situation that many people wish they could be in. To make yourself feel less uneasy about the situation, go to some of the people that are getting laid off and talk to them about your problem.
Ygrene: Man, I mean...corporate will be cool and everything, but I think I can kick ass here.
Tim: How am I going to feed my kids man, what am I going to do?
Ygrene: Then again...it would also be nice to see and experience another part of the country, you know?
Tim: Things were already strained between me and my wife, I think she's going to leave me man...
Ygrene: gosh, i wish there were three of me so I could experience all of these options at once! He..hey where are you running off to?
