Tiesto, Ferry, PvD, et cetera aren't underground enough for GU; they don't play unique enough tracks. |
1) i dont like PvD, but even i respect the fact he plays unique tracks, liek the rest fo them. in fact progressive sounds of the other GU guys seems more similar to each other that the varying stayle of trance they combine
2) what do you mean not underground enough. sasha and digweed were voted number 1 and 2 best djs in the world, now if u can tell me that doesnt make them the 1st and second most popular in the club then ill eat my own hat.
3) as i said b4 i dont like GU but im just questioning your comments |

Tiesto said he would never do a global underground.....ditto for paul van dyk.....just not there style. Global Underground is very popular with it's mainly progressive house/progressive trance tilt. I just don't see them doing something like that. |
That's not true .. some of the best sets i have seen PvD play hav been really progressive. And as for Tiesto he definately has what it takes .. just look at his essential mix. |

| personally I think progressive is a load of bollox. Especially at home to listen too, but there is a place for progressive, and thats in the early hours of the morning in a club, so u can just dance, but without the need for "hands in the air" But I couldn't hack a progreesive night, cos I probably slink off to a crorner, drop a few E's and shoot myself cuz I would be bored out of my face |

Why would Tiesto or any other uplifting DJ give a about GU anyway? They're just another average prog house record label at the end of the day. There's some kind of myth out there that only the best DJ's get do a GU record. I reckon that is just bull created by prog aficionados (in particular, the ones that happen to work on the editorial staff at DJ magazine  ).
So what if Digweed can mix with 3 decks at once or whatever ... it just means you're dealing with a simplistic musical style that lets you get away with that. Obviously you couldn't do that with a Ferry or Tiesto playlist cos the more complex melodic elements of the songs won't let you. And yet prog listeners still delight in this imaginary notion that Sasha and Digweed are somehow 'better' as DJs, when really it's just the genre they've chosen to work with.
I'd rather listen to a DJ that moves me, uplifts me, and builds a cohesive DJ set that works the crowd. I'm not saying prog can't do that for some people, or that uplifting is 'better' than prog any more than prog is better than uplifting, but personally I just find the GU style to be really really really really boring after 20 minutes or so. And sheeit, if you want to see serious turntable fireworks you don't compare trance DJ's - you go listen to hip hop, or the Avalanches or Kid Koala or anyone signed to Ninja Tunes, any one of those guys would kick ass of any genre of trance DJ when it comes to turntablism skills but a lot of that is damn near unlistenable to me.
Seriously I reckon it would be a total backward step for a successful DJ like Tiesto or Ferry to go and do a GU disk. I'd rather have the respect of the public than the respect of a particular record label who've got this bizarre notion that they are the high priests of electronica and everyone must worship their musical choices  |

you read my mind 100% :) nice to see somebody else understands my feelings towards GU. also the fact that people who are seriously into GU most often think theyre "underground, different and with it" and better than everyone else, when theyre jsut the same as us, and they think it gives them the right to down talk any form of uplifting music, which sickens me. |

YES! That's a very good point that I've always wanted to tell other people, too! Very well-said, DuMonde Trancer, and I agree with all your posts, 100%!

ey ey ey.. i sense a polarisation/radicalisation here...looks like an upcoming GU vs. Uplifting war. And i say: stop it, thats bull.
first my taste: I like em both, ive dicovered GU recently, got 2 dics, just ordered a third and yes I do like it very much. I dont think its monotonous at all, but i see the mixes as a complete puzzle if u know what i mean. u cant just take out one piece and look at it and say wtf- boring, senseless. Its the complete think that makes it beautiful. the changing moods, the little subtle sounds, once trancy then housy again. its the journey as a whole. And i think thatis both dancable ( i reckon that once ure "in" the music it'd be ing awesome)and fine to chill at home with.
Now uplifting, i admit..theres still nothing better than some highly emotional set that makes ya cry and love life and raise ya hands at the same time. what a feeling to hear those strings during the break..and wait, wait, wait for the explosion. how cool are those sweet vocals that follow ur dancing? sure , thats incredible.
the point is, that u shouldnt compare them. i condemn both parties here: those GU fans who call uplifting music "cheese" or "childish" or whatever, and the others who as a kind of a revenge try to put prog. music down by saying monotonous , boring, no emotions, no energy. Btw: I dont think that mixing progressive is easier than mixing uplifting, not at all...
Anyway dont care too much about those top 100 lists and enjoyYOUR music while RESPECTING other ppl's tastes. Dont compare, enjoy and share
:whip: :D |

i would rather eat my own than see PvD, tiesto or FC do a GU cd. they simply wouldnt know how to put it together bcoz playing progressive takes something else, keeping it going without it getting boring (which if tiesto tries to play too much prog, thats what it does). GOOD prog dj's like yer nick rileys, yer ashley casselles, yer max grahams etc etc keep the place shiftin and have that certain touch...
another thing.. global underground aint so underground no more... so thats nowt to do with it. GU is just not the place for djs like that.
something els... i despise the comment made about GU being another run of the mill prog label... i think u'll find enough proof in the work of sasha alone to put that comment back where it belongs. |
