| I've been listening to electronic music (hosue/trance/all sorts really) for a few years now, but never really investigated the "scene" until a few mnoths ago. With all the music out there, how do you guys go about finding new artists? Is it strictly word-of-mouth? Also, with al lof the differant mixes for songs these days, how do you find them all. I often see "artist - song (xyz remix)" in posts, but have no idea how to find any of them. |

| I tend to browse by label. That seems to give me more broad results. |

| I do a few things. I mostly have been a record collector and MP3 downloader. I started off downloading MP3s illegally of artists and then I got into buying CDs as well. I would usually find one artist, and the sites would often link me to similar artists or I would actively look around for artists that are similar. I also listened to NetRadio stations that played music I like. I was also into record collecting, and looking at remixes of various tracks, is another way of finding out about the artist or DJ. Like with "Silence (DJ Tiesto's In Search Of Sunrise Remix)" I had never heard of Tiesto until I heard that remix on Oakenfold's "Perfect Presents: Another World" CD. And getting into Tiesto lead me into getting into guys like Ferry Corsten and Armin van Buuren. I listened to ASOT for a little while in 2004 and 2005, and that got me into some artists I had not heard of prior to listening. Nowadays i'm back to the MP3 game, now legally off of BeatPort and AudioJelly, I spend hours just browsing those sites looking for tunes that fit a particular atmosphere I'm aiming for when making a mix. I also look at tracklists and go by recommendations from people I meet, mostly on TA. |

| I spend hours on sites like www.beatport.com and www.audiojelly.com just looking at random samples. Eventually you start to notice some labels that have a sound that suits your tastes, and then searching just by label names becomes easier. Then you can also look at threads here where people reccomend tracks, take note of those who have common tastes and look for the tracks they list. |

If you type in the artist name it will direct you to their remixes as well as their productions. It has most of the remixes on their releases, the same ones released on vinyl. The only problems with the previews on BeatPort is that they are such low quality compared to AudioJelly, and AudioJelly lets you make a playlist of them so you can go back. You have to go back to the release page on BeatPort to hear the tune again. I always try to check out AudioJelly first before I go on BeatPort so I have a clearer idea of what the tune sounds like if I hadn't heard it before. But AudioJelly is a smaller site than BeatPort...and more $$ because of the exchange rate, it's in the UK while BeatPort is in the U.S. |

No prob, that's what people should do. Those suggestion threads get a bit ridiculous. I have nothing wrong with people occasionally asking for some suggestions but the best way I feel is listening and discovering stuff on your own. Just takes time and patience and finding the right places...it's like a network, one thing leads to another... |

Never really learned to type, kinda just made up my own way of doing it. I am pretty fast, but often times hit the wrong keys. |
