^^Communication is Armin's... however, it does have classical melody elements in it but so do many other choons. and IMHO, communication is not cheesy, unless you listen to vocal edit. That one just made me cringe.
oh, and sorry...this has quickly turned into "NL3 appreciation thread" :) |

1. JaPan LFOarp - no arp, just lfo and some fm synth to create "arp" feel with lfo 2 controlling panning and create detuning |
that's Midway Inca melody :)

6. NoLFODelay - patch uses no arp or FX, delay-ish type of sound is produced by LFO1 (take a guess who was my influence for this pad :) ) I'll give you a hint - his name starts with "J" |
that reminds me a soundtrack, like clockwork orange or mulholland drive :)
The last pad is really nice, it could be from a vangelis track :) |

NL3 does sound quite a bit different to the NL2. But it seems to carry on the nord tradition of having *powerful* oscillators.
I love the fact that the nord sounds great without any effects on it. It was the same with the NL2X but I still dont like the bass sounds on it (probably because of the weird 24 dB/Octave filter) and the moog clone doesnt sound anything like a moog :)
But theres stuff that sucks about my Virus too so it evens out. Virus saw and square oscillators are WEAK. Also, It takes forever and a day to build a semi convincing guitar/piano sound and even then it doesnt sound as good as the nords, at least in my experience. Sometimes I wish I had bought the NL2X but I've got my fill of virtual analoge goodness so I really need to look further afield for my next peice of kit. :(
Lovely demo sounds and quite inspirational. |

well, of course - that's why I have a MiniMoog Model D stashed away =). Though, you can make Moog sound like that (of course nothing will compare to pure analog goodness of Moog filters but that's another story) ;)

try some of Matt Picone's soundsets on virus website - he has some awesome piano/guitar patches for virus - much better than NL. Can't be arsed to dig them up right now but give it a shot. |

Mate, thanks for the reading/learning material. Just need to make it through 8 hours of work tommorow and I'll sit down and have a read :toothless
Im guessing pianos/guitars are made partly with wavetables, but those arent very bright on the Virus either. Its kind of murkey all round. The nord has a harder kind of timbre to the oscillators and very fast envelopes - it seemed quite good for plucked and hammer action sounds.
Hence the whole 7 Cities thing I suppose. |
