Check out Orbital's "Blue Album", Future Sound Of London's "Lifeforms", and perhaps music by Boards of Canada, Pan Sonic, Oval, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Pole and Plaid might suit your taste...

Here's a selection of mostly percussionless ambient.

Air - Air [1993]
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 [1994]
Dilate - Octagon [1997]

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Solar Stone - Chilled Out Euphoria
Derivative
Maju - Maju 2

They are a collective of japanese musicians that make totally freeform music and its often beautiful. They released Maju 2 on The Austrialian 'Extreme' record label and now its hard to track down.

I cracked my Maju 2 CD after sitting on it 2 years ago :sadgreen: Doesnt play anymore and finding trouble getting a replacement that doesnt cost a fortune.

If you happen to be lucky enough to find it, I highly recommend it as its become one of my favourite ambient releases ever.

Other than that, definitely check out The Orb - UF Orb and the Blue Room 40 minute single. Blue Room on the album is cut to 17 minutes and it loses quite a bit of the magic. I would also check out Amorphous Androhynous - Tales of Ephidrena. Their newer stuff off 'The Isness' sounds more like...The Doors but the first release was all the stuff cut from the FSOL album 'Lifeforms' and in my opinion is better than all the material on that recording.

Brian Eno and Harold Budd are the kings of ambient IMO.

also, Markus Guentner's 'In Moll' is one the greatest ambient albums I've ever heard.
